Manager of Clinical Pastoral Education –
  • Chaplaincy Services (SOCH):

    The Manager of CPE has direct oversight of the programmatic components of a high performing certified Clinical Pastoral Education program.

    Develops curriculum, conducts, and selects students for all levels of CPE program (Level I, II and Supervisory) under the standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). Supervises students’ clinical work, provides education opportunities, and evaluates students. Engages in ongoing practice of Clinical Supervision of Level I and Level II CPE, Supervisory as well as Residents. Educates supervisory students and oversees their progress in supervising Level I and Level II students. Take responsibility, in consultation with the Director for delivery of Spiritual Care Services. Continually collaborate and cooperates with other supervisors in the planning and administration of the overall training program. Participates in Western New York Regional SES/ACPE peer group, serves as a resource to the Director of CPE & Spiritual Care Services to develop strategies to integrate spiritual care into the care continuum.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor(s)

    Clinical Pastoral Education students: residents(interns), students and supervisory education students.

    SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM):

    Educational Requirements:
    ·
    Master’s Level Degree in Theology or related field required.
    · Certification as a CPE Supervisor or an Associate Supervisor by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) or the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) required.
    · Certified (or eligible for certification) as Board Certified Chaplain by either the National Association of Catholic Chaplains or the Association of Professional Chaplains required.
    · Ordained or commissioned by one’s faith group or denomination. Denominational endorsement required.
    Experience Requirements:
    ·
    Three years of pastoral supervisory and administrative experience in CPE program and/or department of pastoral care required.
    · Experience working with multicultural and diverse religious backgrounds in highly desirable.
    · The incumbent must have strong organizational, interpersonal, and computer skills, as well as knowledge of regulatory requirements appropriate for the position. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
    · One year pastoral experience in church or institution required.
    · Two years experience as Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor, supervising and teaching Chaplain residents (interns) and students required.

    · Knowledge of and support for the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Facilities

    · Ability to be assertive yet flexible.
    · Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    · Strong Management skills.
    · Ability to exercise the authority of the position and to delegate as needed.
    · Ability to implement the institution’s mission and philosophy as it relates to the Spiritual Care Department.
    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    ·
    Some direct contact with patients with communicable diseases using accepted universal precautions.
    · Substantial time spent with students ministering to staff, patients and their loved ones requiring a high degree of emotional energy and mental alertness.
    · Must have mobility through the health institution’s facilities which are handicapped accessible.
    · Must be able to travel to peer group meetings, Seminar on Supervision Workshops, and Regional conferences.
