Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is a world renowned organization dedicated to the progressive control and cure of cancer through programs of patient care, research, and education. The Center of Comparative Medicine and Pathology (CCMP), serving both the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and the Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC), is seeking an Aquatics Manager to oversee our rapidly growing program supporting leading edge science in cancer, developmental biology, neuroscience, as well as cell and vascular biology.

The ideal candidate will oversee and develop the programmatic, administrative, operational and technical activities of three state-of-the-art core facilities, which have the capacity to house over 160,000 Zebrafish (Danio rerio,) as well over 200 African-Clawed Frogs (Xenopus laevis). You will also be responsible for operational management of all facilities and systems including supervising, training and scheduling the activities of aquatics technicians assigned to the program; collaborating extensively with scientific staff regarding the use and refinement of their aquatic animal models; and conducting research to meet these needs. Additionally, you will provide technical services to scientific staff; assist with IACUC animal protocol development; and review and ensure a high level of customer service by providing timely, accurate and expert support to researchers in all aspects of research utilizing aquatic species.

To qualify, a BA/BS or advanced degree in Biology or related field and a minimum two (2) years’ experience in the management of Zebrafish (or other fish species used as laboratory models) systems required. Master’s degree and five (5) years’ experience in the field with demonstrated supervisory experience, along with AALAS Certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) or Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) level preferred. Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and computer skills; the ability to function independently with minimal supervision; and strong analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical or technical principles are required. In addition, knowledge of general engineering principals of the aquatic life support systems and basic plumbing skills and an understanding of genetic principles, population biology and biosecurity are desirable.
