Department Description: The Digital Media & E-Commerce team at Atlantic Records is responsible for all digital marketing, digital product development and direct to consumer initiatives for all of the artists (urban, rock and pop) on the roster. They build online and mobile fan communities, with an eye towards evolving the way that fans listen to, participate in, and purchase music and related products. They create and market content through the Atlantic Network, grassroots marketing, and develop new products for the artist superfans. The department is structured as a boutique digital agency within the label, with the ability to implement groundbreaking digital campaigns from strategy to complete execution and analysis; it is a unique team within an entertainment company, focused on artist brands.

High Level Job Description : The Web developer builds and updates websites and other online tools and performs systems and database administration. The position focuses on online products that are always one step ahead, in order to build the ultimate artist network of sites as a part of Atlantic’s direct-to-consumer initiatives. The ideal candidate is interested in the intersection between consumer online behavior, music and technology. This person reads blogs (tech and entertainment) every day, installs every new app just to try it out, and has a passion for leveraging the Internet to drive artist careers and revenue. They live on social media, lifestyle blogs, and discover new music in interesting ways.

Detailed Job Description/ Responsibilities : The primary responsibilities for the Web Developer position are building and updating artist and label websites with HTML, Javascript (JQuery), and PHP using hand-coded, standards-compliant code, interfacing with MySQL or XML feeds. This developer will also be involved with creating innovative new websites, mobile websites, web-based applications for artist sites, contests, and marketing tools that live on social networks. The ideal candidate should love researching new technology and technology companies, and will serve as a digital ambassador to the rest of the label. This person will also oversee a junior developer, and will oversee all development from 3 rd party partners and agencies.

Technical Skills:
  • Own the build and QA processes for web development projects
  • Strong HTML, CSS and Javascript knowledge
  • Experience using JQuery
  • PHP/MySQL skills
  • Ability to consume third party APIs from Twitter, Facebook, and other partners
  • Experience building websites on a platform
Other Qualifications:
  • 3+ years’ experience
  • Strong desire to explore new technology and make recommendations on best practices and usage
  • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization
  • Strong attention to detail and an eye for design
  • Ability to communicate effectively to technical and non-technical staff
  • Self-starter, motivated to experiment and be a part of a team
Bonus Round:
  • Magento experience
  • Drupal and/or Wordpress Experience
  • Mobile website development experience
  • Knowledge (with a willingness to dig deep) of mobile app development with Appcelerator and/or Phonegap
  • Familiarity with Foundation, Modernizr.js, SASS/LESS, and responsive web development
  • Experience working for a major entertainment company
