The Global Merchant Services (GMS) Data Security organization is chartered with ensuring all merchants and service providers (e.g. Processors) processing transactions are protected. GMS Data Security must safeguard American Express payment card data according to the data security operating policy (DSOP) and adhere to PCI Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS).

The Manager, Data Security Policy will interact with and lead knowledge sharing for various functional teams reliant on the creation and approval of a policy lifecycle. The candidate will organize large amounts of information for salient points for writing policy which leads to process creation, technical enhancements and operational specifications. The Manager will have exposure to external standards body to influence any reviews, modifications, changes or enhancement to policies. You will partner with internal GCO, Client Relationship, Network, American Express Acquiring and Operational Loss & Risk business groups, various external financial services organizations and security firms.

The successful candidate is responsible for:
  • Leading the creation, adoption, and implementation of data security policy and process
  • Evaluating future security framework improvements and integrating into existing policy and compliance programs
  • Coordinating a release and governance strategy including lifecycle management to enable planning and forecasting of market place needs for the protection of financial payment data protection

  • Undergraduate degree required (Legal, Information Security, Business or related studies)
  • Graduate degree is desirable (MBA, JD, Information Security or related studies)
  • Experience evaluating and writing security policy for a financial services organization to determine effectiveness of controls to protect data
  • Recent work on projects involving information security policies in a corporate environment
  • Successful track record of leading proactive change
  • An understanding of industry data security Standards bodies such as PCI and/or EMV
  • Experience working on projects with a global scope influencing change across broad organizations
  • Excellent relationship skills with experience in leading cross-functional teams
  • Communication planning, process communication, presentation delivery and meeting facilitation skills resulting in Enterprise adoption of new processes
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with ability to influence without authority
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple related initiatives simultaneously
  • Process issue resolution, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Well-versed in MS Project and MS Office applications
  • Must be results-oriented and process minded
  • Ability to be flexible in an ever-evolving security environment
Additional Qualifications:
  • Contract writing skills is a preferred
  • Information Security experience or certification a plus (CISSP, CISA, CISM, GIAC)
  • Policy management, auditing, or legal experience preferred
  • Experience in merchant services operations, information security or AEGNS with broad exposure to process analysis desirable
