In 2001, Fiduciary Trust joined forces with Franklin Resources, Inc., a global investment management company operating as Franklin Templeton Investments. The acquisition presented both companies with an opportunity to expand and enhance their resources, services and global presence by combining complementary areas of expertise.
We are currently looking for a Tax Operations Manager to join the Fiduciary Operations Team.
As part of the comprehensive services we offer, Fiduciary provides unparalleled customized tax services to our clients. The Fiduciary Operations team processes transactions that affect Fiduciary’s Tax Services Department which operates as tax diagnosticians, targeting weaknesses and comprising solutions for the most challenging of issues. The Tax Operations Manager is part of Fiduciary Operations and manages all operational and administrative tax aspects of cost records of individual clients. It functions as a liaison between Tax Services and Fiduciary Operations and is the subject matter expert for tax processing on Fiduciary’s trust accounting system, Global Plus.
Review and document the taxability of all capital change activity by utilizing online services. When tax information is not available via online or other public sources, research, opine and document the US tax treatment of corporate actions and capital change activity.
Instruct and advise the Corporate Actions Group on correct processing of capital change transactions such as corporate mergers, reorganizations, spin-offs, stock splits, etc.
Check that all capital changes are processed correctly as well as answer any questions relating to the transactions, verify the processing and basis adjustments in Global Plus.
Maintain tax cost records on Global Plus, a multi-currency trust accounting system.
Research and implement all return of capital adjustments to client positions.
Respond to inquiries on how transactions are processed from a US tax perspective.
Adjust tax cost on any subsequent transactions, where required.
Review the transactions produced by the Corporate Actions Group and other groups within Fiduciary Operations.
Work with the Tax Services Department to periodically review procedures and processing of cost basis, inventory method selection, asset transfer statement or any other processing against IRS regulations to ensure compliance.
Monitor tax law changes and proactively advise on process and/or system changes needed to comply with new tax regulations.
Participate on projects related to tax operations processing.
Participate in seminars and user groups to maintain a network of contacts in the tax industry.
Ideal candidates will have:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; a graduate degree in Tax is a plus.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license desirable, but not mandatory.
At least 8 years of corporate, individual and trust tax experience.
Big 4 tax experience a plus.
Financial investment products knowledge and experience preferred.
1099 reporting experience preferred.
Knowledge of OneSource or similar tax system required.
Knowledge of Global Plus or similar investment portfolio accounting system experience preferred.
Experience with tax research and knowledge of tax research tools such as RIA, CCH, etc.
Ability to supervise and provide direction to staff in a virtual environment.
Ability to organize and manage the workflow of others.
Strong analytical skills and detail oriented.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to exercise independent judgment while implementing solutions to problems or process improvements.
Some travel may be required.
