TITLE OF ROLE: Managing Director
EXPERTISE: Finance

WORK GROUP: Executive

SUPERVISOR'S TITLE: CEO

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE: Along with the managing directors, play an instrumental role in the continued growth and development of the Society. The Managing Director shall dedicate 50% of time toward subject matter expertise in Finance, 25% in general management and 25% in special projects.

SKILLS: Must have knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, finance, banking operations and investing, management information systems, inventory management, risk management and general office management. Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations in regard to personnel policies, benefit plan administration, tax compliance issues, and financial reporting requirements. Must be proficient in spread sheet and related financial software. Demonstrated work ethic and communication skills; understanding of quality principles, continuous learning, customer focus, and teamwork and partnering skills. Demonstrated capacity for embracing change and learning new technologies. Demonstrated project management skills with an outstanding track record of delivering projects on time and in budget. Excellent written, verbal and electronic communication skills. Ability to translate complex concepts into common, understandable language. Strong business acumen. Self-directed, highly motivated, and customer-service focused. Ability to provide positive leadership and affirmation.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration; CPA, CMA, or MBA required.

EXPERIENCE: Ten years management experience in finance and accounting, with at least three years management experience as a Controller, Treasurer, or Chief Financial Officer. Experience with international payments and global finance. Prior not-for-profit experience and/or working with volunteer organizations is desirable.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Planning and scheduling. Plans and implements short- and long-term goals and objectives. Assures project resource scheduling.
2.Budgeting and forecasting. Directs and monitors the society’s budget.
3.Responsibility for establishing objectives, policies or standards. Develops policy consistent with society values and business strategies.
4.Impact of decisions. Position impacts business strategies, revenue generation, Society sustainability and growth. Responsible for negotiating all lease agreements, reviewing purchase agreements and contracts, and supplier selections. Make decisions regarding investment of excess operating capital. Counsels sections and divisions on co-ventures and other financial matters. Decisions could have a significant effect on monetary gains/loss, operating efficiencies and corporate reputation.

ROLE RELATIONSHIPS:
1.Internal – Frequent contact with staff and staff leaders regarding financial procedures, policies, and other business functions. Works closely with CEO and other Managing Directors to achieve ASQ's strategic objectives, quality improvement programs, and financial objectives.
2.External – Develops relationships with members, board, peers and specialists in like environments. Manages contractual relationships with key partners and suppliers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides management leadership for the managers of Finance (Controller) and Office Services.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Operates independently with guidance from CEO.
