As a result of continued growth and success, we are seeking a Managing Director of Operations for our Alexandria, VA Office. We have been operating in this market for over four decades, providing key project management and/or project controls consultancy advice for key blue chip clients. The key requirement of this role is the ability to significantly grow our business in the DC Metro market through engagement of existing clients and developing key new accounts locally as well as throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Typical duties and responsibilities of this job include:
Provides leadership to Alexandria office, acting as lead interface with clients and related project team members.
Develops and implements business development plans and activities, assigns and manages project staffing levels and workforce plans working with Service Heads.
Develops and implements regional strategic objectives aligned with the company’s strategic initiatives.
Provides senior level general management support as necessary (e.g., financial/operational budgeting, consolidation, analysis, forecasting, business development, pricing, billing, and/or key client/consultant relationship management.
Collaborate with key business development personnel to ensure Customer Relationship Management (“CRM”) activities are implemented to facilitate client satisfaction.
Work with Regional Management Team to effectively implement Company, Sustainability, and Environmental Health & Safety programs.
Ensure the Company Risk Assessment Process is utilized, and resulting risk management plans are implemented, in coordination with legal and finance.
Maintains personal chargeability in excess of 50% or at a rate designated by regional management.
The Managing Director will need to provide strong leadership both operationally and in developing business in the region. Thus, our Ideal Candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
Extensive management and service delivery experience and expertise in at least one of the following sectors: Government, Hospitality, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Commercial.
Proven knowledge of the DC Metro market and surrounding area, including a substantial business development track record and an established network of contacts in the industry vital to developing and maintaining accounts.
Extensive experience working for a Construction Project Management Consultancy or Contractor. Exposure to both aspects is highly desirable, but a consultancy background is a key requirement.
Unparalleled ability to lead multi-faceted projects in an executive capacity and command client respect in a billable position.
Demonstrated ability to manage P&L within a consultancy environment (with at least 50 personnel, 3-4 direct reports), and ability to deliver against external and internal expectations. Achieve optimal balance of process efficiency and goal achievement.
Proven success recruiting, engaging, developing, managing and retaining highly motivated people.
Strategic thinking skills, a proactive work ethic, and the foresight required to develop and shape future business is essential; a practical and pragmatic approach to leadership.
Superior commercial acumen to assess opportunities and lead others in the relevant commercial and bidding processes delivering growth and client satisfaction required.
Ability to work collaboratively with the Senior Management Team and peers throughout the organization; a high level of self-management, commitment and trust with an affinity for underlying company values and the stature to operate effectively at the senior level required.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
Fifteen years of relevant ever-increasing responsibility and experience required, with a minimum of ten years’ experience in Management and Project Delivery roles in the DC Metro and surrounding areas.
Active participation in local association chapters, the respect of the local community as an industry leader, and a verifiable network of strong industry contacts necessary for continued and expanded success.
