The Manufacturing Blend Engineer (MBE) is responsible for determining the proper equipment and blend processes for our production facilities and recommends improvements to existing facilities. While this position’s primary focus will be on our fertilizer blend capabilities, the MBE will also work on seed treatment blending. This position works closely with the Fertilizer and Nutrition Team and Operations’ management to identify and determine blending capabilities and functionality, appropriate raw ingredient materials and sourcing, and throughput requirements for the facility. Based on these requirements, the MBE determines the most efficient way to meet these with specific blending equipment and processes, and develops a specific equipment list and blend equipment design. Through a close understanding of our retail locations, the MBE develops blending equipment designs and plans that achieve superior blend efficiency and maximize the use of fertility assets across WECO Geographies.

Major Responsibilities:
Facilitates meetings between key members from the Fertilizer and Nutrition Team and Geography management to define the facility requirements (the required capabilities for the blend plant) for handling and blending dry or liquid fertilizer.

Determines best equipment, design and processes to efficiently meet the required capabilities.

Recommends improvements to existing facilities that improve efficiency and increase blending capacity, factoring in local market growth and future opportunities.

Tests newly installed equipment and trains branch personnel on the new equipment and blend processes.

Works with facility development group to incorporate the blending equipment and design into their overall facility construction design and build process.

Act as a resource for information on latest advancements in fertilizer equipment technology.

Specific Responsibilities:
Use industry contacts, trade journals and associations to stay informed of the most current knowledge and trends in the fertilizer industry.

Meet with key equipment and blend software suppliers to understand and stay abreast with the latest equipment & blend process techniques and their costs, so the MBE can determine the optimal blend equipment, design and process.

Through close association with Nutrition Team, suggest possible market opportunities utilizing new Value Added Nutrition (VAN) technologies in product and manufacturing techniques.

Maintain enterprise view of all production fertilizer assets and suggest ways to leverage resources across WECO regions.

At the request of management, review existing liquid and dry facilities and provide detailed recommendations for storage, building, floor-plan and equipment improvements giving full consideration to future market demand. Suggest ways to maximize product throughput for efficient movement of products.

Represent fertilizer facility planning and utilization at all internal and external meetings.

Act as primary contact for equipment manufacturers and associated fertilizer technology suppliers.

Will involve considerable overnight travel.

Minimum Level of Experience/Education:
BS degree in Agricultural, Mechanical or Industrial engineering preferred.

Experience with design &/or operations of dry and liquid fertilizer blending facility, or grain or mining facility.

Reporting Relationships:
Position reports to the Vice President of Fertilizer and Nutrition

Will draw from all people resources to plan potential projects which may include but not limited to: Retail operation personnel, Regional Nutrition Specialists, Fertilizer Directors, and Fertilizer Logistic Coordinators along with Location Managers, Area Managers, Project Development Managers, Regional Business Analysts, and others as needed.
