A nonprofit membership organization, SfN is supported by a dedicated staff at the headquarters in Washington DC.We have an immediate opening for a Marketing Manager experienced in membership marketing for a professional association. The Manager/Sr. Manager will play a critical role in building and implementing a successful new membership/renewal strategy for our growing, global scientific society. The Manger/Sr. Manager is also responsible for managing the marketing strategy and implementation for the annual meeting, which is among the Society's most critical business functions and regularly draws 30,000+ attendees.The Marketing Manager/Sr. Manager works collaboratively with other departments and leads the development and implementation of integrated marketing strategies to drive membership growth, increase annual meeting attendance. This includes developing and reinforcing a compelling and crisp case for the value of membership and meeting attendance; managing development and execution of marketing content and collateral using multiple channels while adhering to SfN brand strategies.The selected candidate will have a portfolio of experience that includes membership marketing strategy and implementation with budgeting and staff supervision along with a track record of increasing membership and maximizing revenue from exhibit/membership list sales and journal subscriptions. The incumbent will monitor and evaluate strategies and tactics, refining as needed to ensure achievement of key organizational marketing goals.This is a hands-on role. The Manager/Sr. manager will also write copy and develop effective messaging for marketing plans and programs, including collateral, promotional materials, website, electronic communications, exhibits and other delivery channels and maintain strong internal relationships between marketing/communications team and staff in other key functions to implement integrated marketing efforts and cross-sell as appropriate. This also includes helping to organize and facilitate committee meetings and conference calls; coordinate ongoing communications; and ensuring timely follow-up on committee action items.This role is for a mission-driven professional who is energized in a fast-paced, detailed-oriented environment adept at taking initiative and setting priorities to manage multiple projects to completion on time and within budget.We seek candidates with the following qualifications and characteristics: Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or a related field,7 -10 years proven marketing experience in a non-profit membership organization, preferably within a scientific society,3 years of direct staff supervisory experience,Quantifiable results developing and implementing compelling marketing strategies for membership recruitment/retention and annual meeting attendance,Ability to think strategically about multi-channel/multi-faceted communications campaigns to advance organizational brand and programs,Experience developing compelling, crisp and effective messaging/writing for sales and marketing purposes, Strong time and project management, research and analytical skills,Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in cross-departmental and team environments,Ability to respond in a flexible manner to address shifting/changing priorities and needs,Experience effectively handling potentially controversial issues and situations.Highly qualified candidates are invited to apply via the website at Please include a cover letter (with salary requirements), resume, and a writing sample.
