Seeking a hands-on marketing and communications assistant with a passion for working within a non-profit environment. Reflecting the organizations mission and goals and the LSM/NJ brand, this creative, self -directed team player will provide administrative support and media/public relations outreach necessary to help create and implement strategic integrated marketing plans designed to meet goals and increase awareness with target audiences and the general public at the corporate as well as program and/or service level. Reporting to the Executive Director Marketing & Communications (EDM), the Marketing Assistant will work collaboratively with the Marketing Manager (MM), Web Producer (WP) , program specific marketing staff throughout the LSM/NJ organization, and others as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide as needed overall support for the work of the department and corporate marketing team in successful execution of tactical campaigns/activities as part of corporate and strategic marketing plans.
  • Assist in the development of print/web-based/broadcast collateral, advertising, presentations, photos and videos, newsletters/magazines, media alerts and press releases, and other materials or events related to marketing, communications and public relations.
  • Plan--in conjunction with EDM and others as needed--,implement and evaluate results of media outreach and/or public relations campaigns to generate awareness and build friends for LSM/NJ.
  • Write and edit releases, features, story pitches, ad copy, and the like for both print and web-based mediums. Proof own copy and that of colleagues for accuracy, style, grammar and branding consistency.
  • Coordinate with the WP to drive social networking initiatives as part of integrated marketing plans. Provide content and help monitor activity of social media participation within LSM/NJ.
  • Establish/enhance, organize, and maintain databases for the efficient functioning of the department such as: creative assets and design files, media contacts, press clippings, Image Library, Photo/Quote releases, marketing invoices, bulk mail accounts, advertising placements, inventory of collateral, calendar of events, etc.
  • Provide administrative assistance to MM as needed in maintaining the project tracking database, updating report or spread sheet of current projects, and running reports based on project data.
  • Manage the LSM/NJ Style Guide (print and online formats). Update as needed to reflect current corporate and key program branding standards, design templates, and marketing policies and procedures.
  • Manage orders and maintain inventory of marketing premiums for corporate and key programs.
  • Coordinate with the LSM/NJ intranet designer to maintain current marketing department contact and operational information/forms.
  • Maintain accessible inventory of marketing collateral and premiums. Confirm/clarify and fulfill requests for the same.
  • Coordinate various integrated communication and marketing activities.
  • As appropriate, interface with counterparts and build relationships with marketing suppliers, freelance resource, and other vendors.
  • Work with printers, mail houses, designers, writers, photographers, and others to support production/distribution/storage of print and electronic direct mail campaigns that effectively target specific audiences.
  • Track and analyze results of media outreach and social media activities and make recommendations to repeat, revise, or remove in future marketing plans.
  • Provide other support and fulfill other responsibilities as directed by EDM and/or other senior management.

  • Working with the LSM/NJ Executive Director of Marketing and Communications and others, applies marketing principles in support of strategic and comprehensive marketing plans and campaigns to fulfill the organizational mission, objectives, and goals.
  • Assists or independently implements and manages the successful execution of marketing plans and specific related projects/activities—in particular those for public relations, media outreach, and social media--including evaluation and tracking of results as needed.
  • Actively participates in oversight of all marketing collateral (print, broadcast, web based) and activities to ensure accuracy of content and consistency per program and organizational brand standards.
  • Fulfills other duties as assigned necessary for the efficient operation of organization and its various programs.


  • Experience and Skills

    Basic Qualifications

    Education/Training/Certifications: BS/BA required - public relations, journalism, communications, marketing, advertising, or other related programs of study.

    Experience: Minimum – college internship in similar department and organization. Preferred – one to three years of progressive work in marketing and communications and/or related area.

    General Competencies/Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills appropriate for both print and digital applications as well as presentations.
  • Ability to write in voices appropriate for both constituencies and the media, edit and proof own writing as well as copy generated by others, and provide direction to freelance writers.
  • Strong sense of design.
  • Knowledge of systems used in the creation of print and electronic marketing materials and communications.
  • Understanding of the marketing and sales principles and their relationship to the achievement of revenue, program enrollment, or other organizational goals.
  • Team player and independent worker able to balance autonomy with collaboration.
  • Highly organized with ability to set priorities, multi-task, and drive projects meeting deadlines and deliverables from various departments.
  • Innovative with strong initiative yet able to take direction.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Competent working with both Mac and PC computer platforms.
  • Competent in use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Competent is use of--or familiar with and willing to become competent in use of--Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and/or similar design software programs.
  • Experienced in use of and knowledge of marketing/media outreach applications of varied social media tools.
  • Awareness of and interest in learning applications of mobile marketing.
  • Knowledge of or willing to learn basics for web editing and use of CMS (content management system) used on the LSM/NJ sites.
  • Experience in news/event photography and/or videography preferred.
