This position requires a minimum of a limited USCG Merchant Mariners Master's License for motor vessels of size of no less than 1600 GT / 3000 ITC.
The Master has both full responsibility for, and full command of, his/her vessel and all its personnel. His/Her lawful orders must be strictly and promptly obeyed by all officers, crew, and any others on board. The Master shall require a high degree of professional competence from his officers and seaman like conduct from all on board.
The Master reports to the Vice President Vessel Operations.
The Master has a duty to be thoroughly familiar with all applicable governmental regulations and Company policies and shall require a strict compliance by all parties on board.
The Master is the Company representative, and their actions and decisions are generally binding upon the Company.
The Master is responsible for the implementation of safe practices and shall make safety a priority and promote safety-mindedness in all hands on board. The Master is responsible for the health and welfare of the crew, their training, and employee relations. The Master is also responsible for the appearance and condition of the vessel.
The Master is responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel, environmental protection and efficient transportation of the vessel's cargo.
He/She is responsible for the safe ballasting of the vessel and will ensure that the vessel is adequately provided with sufficient spares, stores and bunkers.
The Master will ensure that the necessary training required by flag state, port state, class society, USCG, or any other Company requirements to make all hands fully aware of their responsibilities.
The Master shall also ensure that prompt and necessary actions are taken in the event and in the prevention of any environmental pollution or spill.
The Master is responsible for the medical chest on board and will safeguard the vessels documents and narcotics stores and will supervise the preparation and documentation required to conduct ships business.
This role requires the use of an automated planned maintenance system. Our preference is experience NS5 (Safenet), however, other automated experience would be acceptable.
The Captain must also perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
