Characterize the performance of electrical insulation materials that are applied to industrial electric motor products. Perform failure analysis of motor electrical insulation systems. Design and implement advanced test methods for electrical insulation systems. Support the motor and mechanical (gears and bearings) product group to obtain product and process cost reduction for new and existing products and processes. Activities will be applied to materials and processes for random wound and form wound motors rated from 600 volts to 13.8 kV. Experience with setup and troubleshooting of electronic test equipment is very desirable.
Bachelor of Science or Master of Science Degree is required. A degree in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or comparable field is preferred.
Experience with specialized testing and material performance testing equipment. Knowledgeable of electrical insulation test methods, partial discharge, dissipation factor, voltage endurance and thermal endurance. Experience with failure analysis, accelerated life testing of materials. Understanding of polymers (thermosetting and thermoplastic) and insulation systems comprised of glass, mica, Nomex, polyester, and/or Kapton materials preferred. Knowledge of Design of Experiments, DFM/A, JIT principles, and ISO 9000 preferred. Computer literate, especially with Microsoft Office products. Good communication and interpersonal skills, report writing, technical presentations.
