GENERAL SUMMARY:
At the direction of the Mechanic, the Mechanic Assistant helps to repair and maintain the Companys fleet of shuttle buses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Inspects, repairs and maintains services under PNF guidelines to promote our highest levels of customer satisfaction. Performs work in accordance with PNF maintenance and Repair procedures along with all vehicles and component manufactures guidelines with efficiency and accuracy. Works with lube and oil filter, transmission service, dual air systems, computer systems diagnosis, tune-up, brake systems, steering and suspension, and all related repair procedures. Assists in diagnosing problems and explaining technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals which may include location manager, fleet management, or drivers as required. Assists location managers in driver training and education as it relates to equipment safety and operation. Reads the job order and observe and listen to vehicle in operation to determine malfunction and plan work procedures. Performs general maintenance work such as oil changes and checking engine fluids. Maintains engines and heating/air conditioning units. Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on vehicles, and make adjustments. Performs any other mechanical work as directed by the mechanic. Drives a passenger shuttle bus vehicle and various makes of automobiles, including standard transmission. Performs all clerical duties associated with the position, including, but not limited to: read and accurately transcribe numbers, compute invoice charges, make accurate changes, and complete reports. Drives and secures customer vehicles as needed during double-parking situations. Jump-starts customer vehicles on an as needed basis. Reports mechanical and cosmetic shuttle bus information to management. Complies with state and government and Company requirements to secure and maintain any special licenses. Uses strong, clear and concise communication skills when interacting in person and over the telephone with the public, and when using the two-way radio. Assures safe, expeditious transportation to and from outside retail/wholesale vendors for Company vans, employees and equipment. Additional Duties and Responsibilities: Additional duties as assigned. Detail oriented and mentally alert. Self-motivated and able to work without constant direct supervision. Strong interpersonal skills required. Math skills required to review invoices. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions & procedure manuals. Must be able to operate basic power and manual tools. Must be able to operate a shuttle bus, jump start customer vehicles or put on a spare tires. Must have a valid drivers license and not have more than 3 moving violations in the last three years. Must be at least 18 years old. Educational/Vocational/Previous Experience Recommendations: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Certificate from an automotive technical school preferred. At least one- two years mechanic experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. ASE certification in a minimum of 2 areas and a commitment towards Master status. Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts. Frequently exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and vibration. Noise level is usually loud.
