A certified/non-certified healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients under the direction of an RN, LPN, physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. The medical assistant assists in the delivery of health care for patients in the ambulatory areas of Erlanger.
The scribe will assist providers in the transcribing their patient's examination notes into the electronic medical record, as well as in the delivery of health care for patients in the ambulatory areas of Erlanger. Assisting with patient triage and other direct patient care is required when necessary to maintain clinic patient flow.
High School diploma or GED
Graduate from an accredited or governed Medical Assistant program, or must have passed Medical Assistant Certification.
NOTE: During an acquisition, the organization's medical assistant employees must have two years of on the job training, if not a graduate of a formal program or passed Medical Assistant Certification and the employee must pass Erlanger's medical assistant competency assessment exam.
Medical office experience, as well as an understanding of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology and extensive computer experience. Applicant must pass a 35 wpm typing test.

Required: BLS required within 30 days of hire.

The employee must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the departments policies and procedures. Provide direct patient care under the direction of a LPN or RN including activities of daily living, specimen collection, vital signs, and those duties to maintain the clinic area.
