This Medical Assistant assists with a variety of office duties in a physician office setting. Cross training in several clerical positions within the office is required for this position. Duties to include check-in and check-out of patients, filing, answering telephone, pulling charts, pulling next day appointment charts, as well as keypunching.
The Medical Assistant 's primary duties will relate to assisting physician and/or provider with office procedures involving direct patient care to include removal of sutures and staples, application and removal of all orthopaedic braces, splints and casts, packing and/or dressing of all wounds, diabetic ulcers and/or post op incisions, drawing up of injections, etc. Performs x-rays on a need be basis to include running films, pulling films and x-ray jackets, making x-ray jackets for new patients.
Responsibilities also include completion of all necessary paperwork as required for visit to include MRI, PT/OT, Ultrasound, CT, bone scans or other paperwork such as medical records to physician offices, pre-op paperwork as requested by physician accurately an in a timely manner; scheduling of all MRIs, physical and occupational therapy, ultrasounds, CTs, bonescans, etc.; precertifying all procedures by calling, faxing precert forms, etc. and scheduling of all outside referrals and faxing of appropriate records, results, etc.

The following qualifications are the minimum requirements necessary to adequately perform this job. However, any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements.
A. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
B. Work Experience: Minimum one year work experience preferably medical office experience.
C. Certifications: Ortho Tech certified within 6 months preferred and maintains thereafter.
D. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have ability to work independently, have strong communications skills, and good basic office skills. Must have good organizational skills and be computer literate. Must be flexible with shift end times.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to sit for long periods of time along with the ability to ambulate swiftly for long periods of time. Ability to hear clearly and have visual acuity necessary for computer use. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and reach above shoulder height. Must be able to perform duties under disruptive conditions as well as occasional high stress levels.
Busy physician's office. WestCare Health System shall endeavor to make starting and quitting times as desirable and convenient as possible; however, the workload shall be the determining factors. Overtime should be expected.
