North East Medical Services (NEMS), a multi-specialty health care organization, is seeking a part-time Medical Front Office Assistant for our San Jose site. Under the direction of the Clinic Manager, this individual is responsible for reception duties including answering phones, greeting patients, in load visits. charges data from EMR screen, refer eligible patients into NEMS' participating programs, handle suggestions, answer patient's inquiries, and make appointments for patients.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Greet patients when they come to NEMS.
  • Answer telephone calls and respond to requests appropriately.
  • Inform patients of NEMS' services and programs.
  • Refer patients into the NEMS' program and and any eligible programs.
  • Conduct periodic updates of demographic and financial data.
  • Makes appointments for patients to see NEMS' providers.
  • Performs billing procedures including cashier, running receipts and charge summaries into the computer system.
  • Transfer triage patients to Medical Clinic Triage team.
  • Update patient information in Computer system as needed.
  • Answers phone requests and obtains proper legal consents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

    Marginal Functions:
  • Attends community meetings as requested.
  • Participates in community health fairs as requested
  • Handles all routine filing, typing, copying, etc.
  • Functions as translators for patients and/or staff.

    Qualifications:
  • Minimum of high school degree and two years of work experience in a service profession, such as retail, banking, education, healthcare, etc.
  • Ability to type at least 35 words per minute.
  • Proficient in using computers either through classes or on the job.
  • Ability to interview people in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Able to work well with a diverse population. Have cultural and linguistic skills.
  • Bilingual in either: Vietnamese, English and Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin).
  • Assist in written and oral translations for patient materials.
  • Enjoy serving a diverse population.
  • Ability to work at different clinic sites.
