Provides high-level obstetrical sonographic functions (ultrasound and antenatal testing) and supervises sonographers within the department.

Additional Summary Specific to Job
Candidate for the Clinical/Research sonographer is responsible for assisting and supervising cardiac and vascular ultrasound sonographers, participating in research studies in various capacities, and helping the medical and technical staff.
This includes teaching, performing quality assurance functions, maintaining IAC accreditation, promoting good patient care, maintaining protocol adherence, filling in for staff shortages, and performing multiple research study functions.
Perform Stress Echos
Rotate through all the UTP Clinics on a monthly basis.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, co-workers and visitors.
Balance Multiple Priorities
Supervise and mentor cardiac and vascular sonographers, including the setting of goals and implementing cross-training wherever necessary.
Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, embryology, pathology and general cardiac function as well as problem solving skills and the use of independent judgement to obtain accurate recordings of the heart and great vessels including measurement of heart structures and blood flow.
Demonstrate knowledge of venous and arterial anatomy, physiology, pathology and general vascular function. Be able to follow laboratory exam protocol as well as use independent judgment to obtain diagnostic recordings and measurements of the venous and arterial systems.
Use appropriate judgement, independent thinking and creativity when resolving issue, and lead/motivate employees, promoting cooperation between various other clinical areas.

Demonstrate knowledge of venous and arterial anatomy, physiology, pathology and general vascular function. Be able to follow laboratory exam protocol as well as use independent judgment to obtain diagnostic recordings and measurements of the venous and arterial systems.
Insure that a safe, neat and sanitary environment is maintained for patients and staff.
Keep records and fulfill the requirements that are necessary to maintain the UTP IAC lab accreditation in both vascular and cardiac areas.
Implementation of research protocols and perform research related activities as required.
Maintain skills and knowledge by keeping up with current practices and new advances by attending conferences and scientific sessions.
Maintain and implement and update the Policy and Procedures guidelines.

Organizational Requirements
Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology or its equivalent with a minimum of four years experience in diagnostic ultrasound. Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

Departmental Requirements/Preferences
Prefer 7 or more years of previous experience in echocardiography/vascular ultrasound, including 2 years of hospital-based experience. Experience in supervision/management. Experience in imaging of adult heart disease, ventricular assist devices and prothetic valves preferred.
Registered Adult Cardiac Sonographer (ARDMS or CCI)
Registered Vascular Sonographer (ARDMS or CCI) is preferred.
Registered Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer preferred (ARDMS or CCI) but not required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to use personal computers and select software applications.
Basic knowledge of multiple brands of ultrasound machines and of the Xcelera reporting system is preferred. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
