Under the direction of the Laboratory Director, Laboratory Manager and Group Leader performs general laboratory tests in all related areas. Follows proper procedures to obtain blood specimens; receives and stores all specimens according to protocol. Assumes responsibility and accountability for accurate results. Maintains all equipment to function properly. Competently performs and interprets quality control and proficiency test results. Correctly responds in emergency situations to set priorities and perform required duties. Participates in programs directed toward personal and professional growth. Interprets hospital and laboratory policies to staff, patients, family and community. Communicates with manager and/or group leader to inform management of all problem situations or concerns. Utilizes the computer with ease and confidence for laboratory and basic office applications.
A formal laboratory training program with ASCP or equivalent certification. Minimum of bachelors’ degree or equivalent in a laboratory science, medical laboratory technology or successful completion of the HEW exam. Must have training and experience to qualify as a general supervisor under CLIA-88 regulations.
Minimum one year experience preferred but not required. Recent graduates must successfully complete ASCP certification within 12 months. Twelve hours of continuing education required annually. ASCP certification must be maintained per applicable Certification Maintenance Program (CMP).
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and call as required. Extra shifts/overtime may be required. May be requested to substitute at Marshfield Clinic regional sites. May be asked to reduce hours as needed to accommodate current workload.
