The Department of Human Services (DHS), Seniors and People with Disabilities (SPD), State Operated Community Program (SOCP) is seeking individuals for an exciting career opportunity in the SOCP Group Homes. This recruitment will be used to fill position(s) as temporary appointments. There are twenty-three (23) community-based behavioral and medical homes located in the Willamette Valley area. Fourteen (14) of the group homes are designated as Mental Health Therapy Technician group homes and are located in the Portland surrounding area, Salem surrounding area, Lebanon, Eugene and Newberg, Oregon. These positions are not represented by a union.
This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates.

SOCP provides 24-hour residential and vocational services and support for the highest risk population of Oregon citizens with Developmental Disabilities. SOCP is dedicated to providing developmentally disabled children and adults the support necessary to maintain the quality of life, achieve the highest possible level of independence and promote social opportunities, which benefit the individuals and the community. An Individual Support Plan (ISP), which emphasizes what is most important to the individual, is developed annually, updated as needed, and monitored by an assigned County Services Coordinator.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of the Direct Support Staff is to provide training and/or assistance for the children or adults in, behavioral management, safety, school, personal care, nutrition, housekeeping, health care and other daily activities in a safe and sanitary manner.
There are three (3) major areas these positions focus on: Behavior Training, Communication and Stabilization/Transition.
Health & Safety as outlined in each individual's Behavior Support Plan (BSP) and Individual Support Plan (ISP).
Treatment Development & Implementation
- Follow supervision protocols for each individual both in the home and community settings.
- Follow community transportation protocols and levels of supervision for general community integration, court appearances, school, family visits, medical appointments, counseling and others as needed.
- Follow Oregon Intervention System (OIS) of least to most restrictive strategies.
Training and Communication
- Participate and/or provide input in training and treatment development by attending group meetings to develop plans, provides objective feedback to behavior consultant, and assisting with interview/observations as requested by the team.
- Implement written ISP and Behavior Support Plans (BSP), which includes proactive and reactive strategies, observes and reports general physical condition.
- Complete Incident Reports as specified by policies and procedures related to behavior and other incidents.
Mandatory Training and Orientation
- Provide training for children or adults living in the home per ISP/BSP.
- Mentor new employees as assigned.
- Communicate client Personal Focus Work (PFW), and behavior/medical status to co-workers, treatment team and placement providers.
- Attend and actively participate in job related trainings and implementations as appropriate on the job.
- Orient and train prospective caregivers on ISP/BSP.
- Monitor, assist and motivate children or adults to participate in daily training and treatment needs directed by plan as well as incidental training.
- Monitor and assist with physical cares, personal hygiene, dressing and prosthetic devises, etc.
- Implement transition plan to assist in developing new relationships and familiarize with new placement visits.
- Assist with bridging and building relationships with transition.
- Assist with transition upon exit.
Work site is in a home environment, which is staffed 24-hours/day, seven days/week.
This job requires that the applicant must be able to:
Work occasional overtime as required. Overtime could be mandated to ensure adequate staffing requirements;
Have and maintain an acceptable valid driver's license, as frequent use of a motor vehicle to transport children or adults throughout the state is required;
Have the ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis, including physical restraints;
Work with combative, unpredictable, argumentative, aggressive and developmentally disabled children or adults who may be dangerous to themselves and others on a daily basis;
Withstand exposure to body fluids, detergents and other cleaning agents on a daily basis;
Dress in professional work attire (examples: court, family visits, school , etc) including following house specific dress codes.
Qualifications & Desired Attributes:
Eighteen months of experience providing direct patient/client care or training in a related field of human services (i.e., providing assistance to children or adults or groups with issues such as substance abuse, mental and physical disabilities or juvenile delinquency). OR
An Associate's degree in a related human services field.
Experience in the following:
Working with individuals who may be mentally, emotionally behaviorally or physically impaired;
Behavior and Individual Support Plans;
Protocols for in home and community settings, saftey, transportation and supervision of community integrations.
Attending court appearances, school, family visits, medical counseling, etc; and
Oregon Intervention System (OIS) of least to most restrictive strategies.
This position does not require a CNA license and hours worked in this position will not count towards your paid employment for the purpose of renewing your CNA license.
An abuse history, driver's license and criminal history check (this includes fingerprints if needed) will be done on all applicants offered a position. If you are a resident of another state, you will need to provide your driver's license record from the state you have been or are currently licensed in within the last 2 years. Any adverse background data may be grounds for immediate disqualification. You must possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
Your driving record must meet the qualifications of the DHS, SOCP Driving Policy and will be considered unacceptable for offenses, including, but not limited to any misdemeanor or felony traffic offense in the last 24 months.
If you are offered one of these positions, the program will offer training and you must become certified in the following:
American Heart Association First Aid/CPR certification , requiring you to complete compressions in a kneeling position; and
Certification for the Oregon Intervention System (OIS) of restraints, requiring you to get up and down from the floor while maintaining an approved restraint on clients.
The SOCP system of medical training , requiring you to demonstrate competency in completing doctor's orders, appropriate passing of medications to clients, appropriate documentation, and appropriate procedures for emergencies.
