Under immediate direction, this position performs whole blood primary production, secondary production, distribution of blood components, and functions covered under the Central Receipt Department of Manufacturing. This position will perform visual inspections of all blood components and perform leukoreduction of red blood cell components. This position will label and organize blood components in appropriate storage areas. This position will box frozen plasma. This position will provide customer service for hospitals and other blood centers. This position participates in all applicable competency and continuing education programs.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Maintains product production, inventory, and distribution.
1.1. Performs Primary and Secondary Production.
1.2. Centrifugation and creation of red blood cell and plasma components from whole blood donations.
1.3. Performs visual inspections of all blood products to ensure quality.
1.4. Performs leukoreduction of red blood cell components.
1.5. Labels blood products.
1.6. Places and organizes blood products in appropriate storage areas including walk-in refrigerator(s) and freezer(s).
1.7. Box frozen plasma.
1.8. Receives, fills, and distributes orders for blood products and related supplies.
1.9. Sort, pack, and distributes recovered plasma products.
1.10 Arranges the transfer of platelet products, as necessary.
1.11 Arrange transfer of blood products from one client to another client.
1.12 Provides excellent customer service by handling requests with
professionalism and courteous communication.
1.13 Interacts with couriers to assure the end customer’s needs are met.
1.14 Inspects, monitors, and organizes inventory, communicating needs to
department leadership.
1.15 Returns products into inventory / ships-in products, assuring all items
received meet specifications.
1.16 Performs month and year end inventory counts.
1.17 Supports business operations in the event of an inclement weather situation,
emergency or catastrophe. This may include working additional hours,
vacation cancellation and supporting operational priorities as needed.
2 Performs duties in compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
2.1 Complies with technical policies and procedures.
2.2 Complies with regulatory agencies.
2.3 Follows administrative policies and procedures.
2.4 Checks all work and reports for completeness, accuracy, and quality.
2.5 Confers with manager or designee on any problems or discrepancies.
3 Provides support to the Central Receipt Department of Manufacturing and Equipment Management.
3.1 Assists the Central Receipt Department of Manufacturing with the receipt of blood components, donor samples, and patient samples.
3.2 Performs qualification of whole blood donations and returns of blood components as needed.
3.3 Responds to Bonfils temperature monitoring system as needed.
4 Prepares and maintains operating procedures, equipment, and work area(s).
4.1 Ensures cleaning, quality control, maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
4.2 Reports any discrepancies, malfunctions or problems to supervisor or designee.
4.3 Files department documentation.
4.4 Ensures supplies are stocked throughout the workday.
4.5 Participates in the Annual Procedure Evaluation process.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

Previous experience in manufacturing (blood center, pharmaceutical lab, food grade) or related industry is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have an understanding of how to work with and review operating procedures.
Previous knowledge of working in a regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
Basic knowledge of computers and some programs (i.e. keyboarding, Word, Excel, Outlook).
Manual Dexterity.
Strong oral and written communications skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent attention to detail and quality.
Some technical writing skills.
Ability to see the full color spectrum.
Ability to work in temperature extreme environments.
Ability to follow and adhere to operating procedures.
