I. Position Summary: The Assistant Manager demonstrates the ability to manage and lead the daily operations of the surgical department to meet the objectives of the department and organization. The Assistant Manager provides leadership through planning, organizing, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating the care provided for patients. Performs delegated duties consistent with the scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan of care at Rose Medical Center. Supports staff members through effective communication methods and ongoing coaching and development. The Assistant Manager leads improvement and efficiency programs/projects in the surgical services areas through data analysis, planning, implementation and evaluation of outcomes to achieve goals and inclusion of others in the process. The Assistant Manager assists the Manager of Surgical Services in the process of fiscal management for the department through analysis and preparation of financial reports to organize and control resources. The Program Assistant Manager provides positive support for the values and mission of RMC.

II. Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Colorado

B. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree preferred. Current BLS certification.

C. Experience: Minimum of 5 years clinical experience required. Previous supervisory/management experience preferred.

D. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrates understanding of health care from an operations perspective. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of the nursing process. Demonstrates the ability to plan and provide for delivery of nursing services. Ability to recognize the needs and concerns of people and to maintain constructive relationships in dealing with them. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Participates in counseling and guidance of personnel. Ability to assume twenty-four hour responsibility for integration of patient care. Recognized personal responsibility in striving for innovative health care delivery that meets contemporary needs and assumes leadership in negotiating for changes in health care.

III. Degree of Supervision Required: Under the direction of the Manager of Surgical Services.

III. Orientation Period: Minimum of 2 weeks contingent upon experience.
