MIN REQS: Education: Associates Degree in related field (electrical, mechanical, or industrial). Bachelors Degree in related field preferred. Experience: Minimum 5 years facilities engineering experience as stationary engineer or boiler operator, with at least 2 years in a first-line supervisory role in a California acute care facility, including demonstrated successful completion of TJC accreditation surveys, responsibility for compliance with Cal OSHA, OSHPD, NFP and state and local fire and environmental regulations. Training: NFPA 101, Cal OSHA training. License/Certification: Current California Drivers License, Current EPA (CFC) certification, Operating Engineer. Preferred: Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM).
SUMMARY: Provides leadership, planning, coordination and supervision of the activities of the Plant Maintenance and Plant Operations functions. Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and guidelines, Joint Commission standards and other applicable safety requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Supervises the safe operation and maintenance of all facility machinery, equipment and transmission systems to ensure the all equipment and transmission systems are functioning normally, efficiently and safely. 2. Manages Facilities/Plant Operations department personnel including selection, hiring, department orientation and training, competency, evaluation and discipline. Develops policies, procedures, and standards of work performance. Manages staff productivity so as to maintain effective service within established flex staffing guidelines. 3. Develops annual operating and capital budgets and business plans. Plans for long term future capital asset expenditures to minimize repair and ongoing operating costs. Monitors and manages ongoing expenses in order to deliver services within budget parameters. 4. Collaborates and coordinates with SJH construction and design group on construction and renovation projects to assist with problem solving, internal communications, minimization of operational and environmental impact, and project completion on time and within budget. Plans and executes smaller non-permitted projects throughout hospital campus. 5. Collaborates and communicates with Hospital management and regulatory agencies to ensure services are provided in a safe and compliant fashion at all times. Provides continual state of readiness within Engineering for unannounced surveys. 6. Using resources such as surveys, personal assessment and follow up, assesses, evaluates, and continually improves the delivery of technical engineering services throughout the hospital campus and associated properties. Ensures patient, physician, and employee satisfaction. 7. Serves on hospital task forces, ad hoc work groups, Emergency Management Command Centers, and committees within scope of position. 8. Manages Contracted Security and Parking functions to ensure that a safe, secure and cost effective environment is maintained at all times for staff, patients, and visitors. 9. Supports facility moves planning and execution, as well as all facility space planning analyses and recommendations.
