Lee County High School in Beattyville, KY has been granted a remote teaching opportunity sponsored by Microsoft to teach Introduction to Computer Science to their students using Industry Professionals as the primary facilitator. The goal of the program is to bring the necessary skills to the schools such that Computer Science can become a regular curriculum taught by the school's staff. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence the direction of the class by working with Microsoft Industry Professionals during the development of a curriculum that could be used in other areas of KY. This position is being offered through the Office of Regional Stewardship during the 2013 spring semester. Position will report to a Microsoft Corporation employee assigned to this project in Lee County. Travel is required and mileage reimbursement is provided at the current state rate.

Must have competency with computer programming concepts from variable usage (member vs. global), loops, decision branches, functions, recursion, lists, and arrays. Be comfortable in a teaching environment, and interacting with students and professionals. Computer Science, Education, and Information Systems majors are preferred but all majors are welcome to apply.

Duties & Responsibilities: Learn Build your own block (BYOB) and how it is used to teach basic and advanced computer programming concepts. This information will be captured to help develop text curriculum for future teachings. ? Participate in in-class instruction on a daily basis, and be available to answer questions and support the remote teacher with addressing technical questions from students. ? Report progress and identify areas of disconnect. ? Participate in class learning by doing projects ahead of the class, and then provide feedback on the projects to the instructor. ? Provide supplemental help for students in need of outside instruction.
