REPORTS TO: School Director

  • In coordination with the School Director
  • Strategically plan and implement the school’s mission through efficient and effective management of the school’s instructional and co-curricular program
  • Provide the leadership that will result in an instructional program that prepares every student for the successful matriculation into a four-year college or university
  • In coordination with the Lead Grade Level Chair and the Grade Level Chair Team
  • Plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive program of personal guidance based on the defined needs of the population served
  • Provide a guidance program that will maximize personal growth and development and assist all students in achieving optimal academic success

Develop programs to build strong culture
  • Work with the School Director to develop and implement school-wide programs that increase student motivation and student retention and reduce disciplinary referrals;
  • Oversee and evaluate a comprehensive program of student and school management and culture that will assist students in achieving optimal academic success;

Implement a system of accountability for students
  • Develop, implement, and manage the processes for the in-school suspension program (RISE), honor code violations, expulsions, out of school suspension, Wall Street, and parent communication;
  • Keep all records on student discipline and parent communication;
  • Collect and report on information for academic at-risk factors for all students
  • Develop, implement, and manage the process for academic probation and credit recovery

Support and Manage Adults
  • Facilitate all grade-level chair meetings and manage grade-level chairs to ensure effective communication between grade level teams
  • Manage and collaborate with other non-instructional staff members as determined by school director (SSCs, Athletic Director, etc.)
  • Observe teachers in the classroom and in parent meetings; provide feedback to the teachers on the indicators of classroom management and culture and parent communication
  • Observe classroom instruction. Record observation notes, feedback, and evaluative scores in IES
  • Conduct coaching conferences with teachers to build relationships and provide both oral and written feedback about their classroom performance
  • Conference with teachers about instructional planning, assessment, and student achievement data to evaluate their work and provide feedback in the IES and in person

Develop and sustain positive relationships with various stakeholders including teachers, students, parents and community members. Ensure campus systems and structures are in place to maximize student achievement and persistence through interventions
  • Create opportunities in daily schedule for interventions
  • Lead campus efforts around behavior interventions
  • Chair campus intervention team/working with chair
  • Serve as a source of support to GLCs running the grade level intervention process


Program Management


(1) Plan and develop instructional methods and content for the YES Prep instructional program (including the special education and GT programs);

(2) Collaborate with teachers to develop and maintain curricular standards, set academic performance goals and establish policies and procedures to carry them out;

(3) Monitor the YES Prep instructional program by observing classroom instruction on a regular basis, conferencing with staff, and carefully analyzing assessment data related to student performance;

(4) Evaluate curricula, teaching methods, and programs to determine their effectiveness and alignment with requirements for college;

(5) Review and oversee the execution of recommended improvements in the design and implementation of the YES Prep instructional program;

(6) Evaluate the quality of YES Prep instructional resources to support the accomplishment of instructional goals;

(7) Oversee an assessment program that effectively evaluates the YES Prep mission – MAP, common assessments, STAAR;

(8) Develop school-wide programs/incentives that increase student motivation and reduce disciplinary and academic probation referrals;

(9) Use an effective information and referral process to help students and others utilize special programs and services (special education and guidance counseling);

(10) Oversee processing of all discipline referrals;

(11) Develop, implement, and manage the in-school suspension program as well as the after-school Wall Street program;

(12) Manage all YES Prep Middle School Grade-level Chairs and ensure effective communication between grade level teams, students, and parents;

(13) Refine, implement and manage the Academic Probation program as well as the Honor Roll-if applicable;

(14) Assist school director in developing parent/student orientation and recruiting materials;

(15) Oversee the management of the YES Prep student store;

(16) Oversee the YES Prep discipline system to ensure that it is being used consistently and fairly;


(17) Plan and develop new programs; Submit program proposals to School Director, Head of Schools and Board of Directors for approval;

(18) Pilot, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of extended student support programs such as the YES Corps, math enrichment, reading enrichment, student pull-out, extended study hall, Saturday tutorials in lowering student retention and attrition rates;

(19) Work with established YES Prep campuses to create a framework for implementing new middle school programs, share best practices and ensure success of new campuses;

(20) Establish, coordinate, and oversee non-academic school programs and activities as needed.

People Management & Development


(21) In coordination with Home Office and School Director, assist in the interviewing and selecting of instructional and non-instructional staff members;

(22) Prepare and coordinate committees of teachers and staff to assist in the selection process by providing interviewer training and monitoring adherence to effective and legal selection guidelines;

(23) Identify controllable reasons for staff/student turnover and ways to address them successfully.


(24) Define and communicate performance expectations for all Middle School instructional staff as outlined by performance appraisal systems;

(25) Observe and document job performance of all staff in a timely and objective manner;

(26) Complete performance evaluations, conduct evaluation conferences, provide feedback and developmental supervision for all Middle School instructional staff;

(27) Assist School Director in evaluating and implementing personnel recommendations (i.e. placement, transfer, retention, promotion, and dismissal).


(28) Provide new and returning staff with appropriate, timely, and effective YES Prep curriculum and instruction training leading to high quality instruction;

(29) Assist individual staff members in developing professional growth plans, setting realistic improvement goals, and attending professional conferences/workshops. Ensure that all staff members complete thirty hours of professional development per year;

(30) Develop leadership among the staff and delegate responsibilities to foster professional development;

(31) Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible;

(32) Participate in workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance counseling knowledge and skills.

(33) Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the YES Prep mission, core purpose and core values, and build a common vision for school improvement among students, staff, parents and the community;

(44) Consult with parents, teachers, administrators and other relevant individuals to enhance their ability to impact student success at YES Prep;

(45) Demonstrate skill in conflict-resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, and/or the community;

(46) Supervise YES Prep student registration-if applicable;

Student Management

(47) Enforce discipline and attendance rules. Support the implementation of the YES Prep student discipline plan that encourages and rewards dedication, discipline, and desire to succeed at all grade levels;

(48) Support all Middle School faculty and staff in the campus discipline program and deal with egregious student discipline matters in a serious and effective manner;

(49) Ensure that staff receives appropriate assistance in dealing with severe or frequent student disciplinary problems;

(50) Investigate all student disciplinary matters;

(51) Conduct individual and small group meetings with students when necessary;

(52) Track and manage student discipline records;

(53) Coordinate programs to address specific disciplinary issues that arise throughout the year;

(54) Plan and coordinate school-wide events such as all school field trips, YES Prep Award Ceremonies, quarterly Honor Roll trips, etc.-if applicable;

(55) Coordinate all Saturday school events and schedules with the Service Learning Coordinator-if applicable;

Community Relations

(56) Demonstrate awareness of YES Prep fiscal and programmatic needs and lead the efforts and activities to meet those needs (i.e. student recruiting, teacher recruiting, fundraising, advocacy);

(57) Promote the positive image of YES Prep and maintain a positive working relationship with parents, community members, and other educational organizations;

(58) Create and maintain a culture that embraces and actively engages in service projects that positively impact the surrounding community; offer meaningful service opportunities to YES Prep students, communicate and recognize accomplishments;

(59) Promote an appreciation and understanding of the history, needs and perspectives of the immediate communities where YES Prep schools operate.

Fiscal Management

(60) Assist School Director in the development of departmental and school-wide budgets to the Head of Schools based on program needs, estimated enrollment, staffing, and other fiscal needs; manage a budget that is either at or tracking towards financial sustainability.

(61) Assist School Director in the implementation of effective programs within budget limits, maintain fiscal control, accurately and responsibly report all fiscal information;

(62) Assist School Director in providing and overseeing the preparation of required reports for all school operations including, but not limited to academics, enrollment, attendance, funds accounting, payroll, and transportation.

Professional Growth & Development

(63) Identify areas for own personal/professional growth and discuss with managers;

(64) Participate in meetings, workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance knowledge/skills, address areas for personal/professional growth, and benefit school and district;

(65) Apply knowledge and insights gained through professional development. Share this knowledge with staff as appropriate;

(66) Keep well informed about current trends in instructional practices, student management, and college prep curricula;

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
  • Master's Degree in Education or related field (preferred)

  • Must have an exemplary teaching record for at least 2 years

Length of Work Year: Year-round position; evening and weekend commitments also will be required
