Mine Planning Engineer - Kosse Mine
This position is responsible for Mine Planning / Mine Engineering duties in support of a large lignite mine operation(s) to ensure maximum productivity and efficiencies in a safe manner.
Description & Responsibilities:
Performs complex engineering tasks of design, evaluation, problem solving, analysis, and planning to support mine site operations.
Utilize Carlson computer mine planning software to provide technical support.
May utilize additional software such as Talpac and Dragsim to identify and improve cycle times and dragline digging methods.
Analyze mining equipment and methods for cost, quality, and productivity improvements.
Be part of a team developing the 30-90 short-range mine plans. This includes the development of the monthly fuel strategy and scheduling of the mine equipment. Close coordination is required with the railroad, plant operations and the mine operations to develop and communicate the mine plan.
Participate in the long-range mine planning efforts (5-7 years).
Comply with safety policy and procedures to ensure and promote a safe working environment.
Communicate extensively with the operations staff on setting parameters, scheduling major equipment outages, and establishing future mining targets. Mine planning meetings are utilized in a formalized process to update the plan and improve production.
Cross-train and assist other support groups to aid the mining operation.
Participate in special projects and committee assignments as requested.
Must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
Possess at least 2 years prior experience in mining industry preferred.
Professional Engineering License in Texas not requirement, but is preferred.
Position level is dependent on work experience.
Must be capable of crossing professional disciplines.
Have substantial knowledge of open pit mining methods and regulatory requirements.
Able to use database, spreadsheet, word processing, mine planning and CAD software.
Effective in engineering design and application of engineering principles.
Technically sound in engineering practices and innovative in problem solving.
Ever-improving accuracy of work.
Meet reporting deadlines established in the planning process.
