The Assistant Director is a member of a small, fast-paced office that works closely and collaboratively with a team of faculty and students to create the Minerva Program, a system of seven Houses that include a small residential component and extensive social and intellectual programming. The goals of the program are to improve campus culture by providing diverse programs, enhancing student-faculty relations and intellectual life outside the classroom, and creating a diverse community. All students and faculty belong to one of seven Minerva Houses. The Assistant Director is on the front line in all aspects of the program and must handle a wide range of tasks, including coordinating housing, budgets and programming, supporting and advising student and faculty leaders, maintaining web sites, completing online surveys, and updating databases. In addition, the Assistant Director works closely with a diverse population of students and supervises the student residential staff. Ideally, the Assistant Director will contribute his or her unique point of view to an evolving vision of the program and work creatively with the Director and student/faculty leaders to develop new ways to meet program goals. The Minervas are a “bottom-up,” democratically-run program that crosses the boundaries between student life and academics; the staff need to be open to change and to working collaboratively with faculty and students. The Assistant Director reports to the Associate Dean of Students/Director of Minerva Programs and works closely with the Offices of Residential Life, Campus Safety and Campus Facilities.
