Inver Hills seeks an Academic Advisor to organize, implement and evaluate orientation and retention strategies for adult learners (25 years and older with substantial work, life, or military experience) and students taking online, blended, or hybrid courses.
Develop and implement a retention program designed to ensure successful completion of courses for students taking online, blended or hybrid courses.
Create, implement and evaluate strategies to prepare students for taking online courses.
Implement, manage and assess the orientation for online learning; assist in the selection and development of an online readiness assessment.
Provide academic advising to foster goal completion for adult learners including veterans.
Meet with new and returning students to discuss course selection, changes in an Individualized Professional Studies degree plan, academic progress and strategies to complete their educational goals; discuss prior learning assessment (PLA) opportunities.
Collaborate with Academic Director of Adult Learning and Veterans Coordinator to ensure that students receive proactive academic advising.
Provide academic advice to prospective and new students in transition to college; participate in SmartStart and PSEO orientations.
Assist students with registration and financial planning, including FAFSA and scholarship applications.
Communicate with students via an early-alert system or similar student retention programs.
This is a two-year limited position.
Two or more years of experience working with adult learners (25 years and older with substantial work, life or military experience) in a higher education academic setting.
Knowledge of higher education principles, programs and processes such as present and future trends in adult higher education.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Knowledge, background and experience working with diverse groups of students and faculty.
Competency with computers (i.e. Microsoft Office).
Master’s degree in a relevant field.
Experience in developing online/blended/hybrid resources for students taking online and accelerated blended/hybrid courses.
Experience working with credit for prior learning processes and procedures.
Knowledge and experience in credit transfer especially in relation to individualized professional studies degrees and prior learning assessment credits.
Ability to understand and develop productive working relationships and work in a team setting.
