POSITION PURPOSE -
The Mobile Web Systems Engineer develops, maintains and supports The Home Depot's technical infrastructure, hardware, and system software components for complex projects. Performs configuration, debugging and support for multiple infrastructure platforms. Performs root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; creates preventative measures and presents to management. Perform engineering and roll-out implementations. Ability to present ideas and manage projects. Interface with Business Stakeholders on complex projects. Update manager on escalated issues. Will provide technical leadership and direction to other associates.

You will work with IT teams and business partners to understand strategic initiatives as well as deliver leading-edge online capabilities that also support Home Depot'™s retail business. You will apply advanced problem-solving techniques and coordinate with other core team members to resolve system issues, maintain complex business logic and identify and implement innovative solutions.

In the role of Mobile Web Systems Engineer on the Online Technology Web Operations team, this person will have responsibilities primarily focused on operating the systems and web services that power Home Depot'™s consumer mobile applications and website. This role will work directly with the overall Online Operations team to improve performance and reliability of mobile products.

The role will perform the following activities:
  • Building and operating a diverse infrastructure that powers mobile applications and web for one of the largest eCommerce websites in the world
  • Continually working to improve the reliability and performance of our production mobile applications and web
  • Defining and delivering robust monitoring solutions for all key business transactions, application processes, middleware, and infrastructure
  • Working directly with the overall web operations team to leverage existing knowledge, resources and best practices
  • Working closely with our mobile development team to champion operational best practices and ensure the mobile infrastructure can meet delivery needs of future development projects
  • Defining, measuring, and meeting key operational metrics including mobile application and site performance, incidents and chronic problems, site traffic and conversion, etc.
  • Managing incidents and attending impacting outage calls for high severity production incidents
  • Conducting health checks and monitoring of mobile system infrastructures and components to ensure systems are healthy
  • Analyzing incidents, performance, and trends to proactively identify and resolve potential issues before they develop
  • Responding to day-to-day business requests for research, troubleshooting, support requests
  • Acting as a subject matter expert for troubleshooting and resolving complex, multi-tier web and mobile application problems that span a number of different platforms
This is a highly technical role. This person should possess a wide breadth of web operations and mobile knowledge and be capable of providing technical leadership and guidance to a large operations team.

Performs configuration, debugging and support for multiple infrastructure platforms on large-sized and smaller projects. Performs root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures and present to management. Assist in store & SSC engineering and roll-out implementation. Can communicate complete technical solutions to business partners with minimal direction using understandable language. Ability to manage time and work independently on multiple projects. Systems Engineer 2 has been exposed to various architecture review boards and has contributed to deliverables presented at review boards. Escalate appropriately to technical leaders and management.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
Perform installation, maintenance and support of system software and user support on small to mid-sized projects.
Perform configuration, debugging and support for multiple infrastructure platforms on small to mid-sized projects.
Monitor and tune platforms to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved.
Perform installation, maintenance and support of hardware and infrastructure on small to mid-sized projects.
Perform root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures and present to management.
Assist in store & SSC engineering and roll-out implementation.

Typically reports to Manager, Information Technology

Responsible for helping others and providing on-the-job training or guidance

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
ESSENTIAL SKILLS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -

Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must pass the Drug Test.
Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses.

EDUCATION REQUIRED -

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 1

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -

Most of the time is spent sitting or standing in the same location or there may be a need to stoop regularly or move/lift light material or equipment (typically less than 8 pounds).

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS -

Knowledge and experience with computer hardware, operating systems and system software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
BS Computer Science or related field.

  • This person needs to be a jack of all trades but highly technical and able to rapidly assimilate new IT knowledge including: Endeca, Web Middleware, Web Protocols, Web Services, Java, eCommerce, Networking, Operating Systems (AIX and Linux), Server Hardware, Storage, Databases, Performance, Configuration and Change Management, High Availability, Business and Systems Monitoring, and Incident Management
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to handle high-stress situations that require quick thinking and teamwork
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES -
Working knowledge of the PC (hardware and software) is essential.
Ability to listen to user issues and translate to determine appropriate technical solution.
Ability to work autonomously and with a diverse team.
Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization.
