Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawaii (UH) Cancer Center, located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Physical work location will be at both the UH Cancer Center and Ontario Cancer Institute, located in Toronto, Canada (telecommuting is permissible). Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications.

DUTIES: Supports all aspects of related research to study how environmental carcinogens and genetic factor interact to cause human mesothelioma, with minimal supervision. Performs standard molecular biology and cell biology techniques such as: deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid (RNA), and protein extraction, Western, cloning, subcloning, immunohistochemistry, fluorescent staining, in situ hybridization, transfections, infections, and PCR, Real-Time PCR, ELISA, chemotaxis assay, etc. Coordinates and helps to generate animal models for mesothelioma studies, as well as carries out some independent research project. Analyzes data, researches conclusions, and discusses it with supervisor. Contributes to the preparation and writing of publications and protocols.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Life Sciences or related field. EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of experience in molecular biology and immunology. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Expert knowledge of molecular biology and immunology techniques such as DAN/RNA extraction, PCR, Real-Time PCR, ELISA, Western blot, chemotaxis assay, IHC, fluorescent staining etc. Strong written and oral communication skills. Must be proficient in cell culture and molecular biology/immunology techniques as outlined in duties and responsibilities. Proficient in data analysis software such as Excel, Microsoft Office applications and others. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to carry/lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Good skills in performing animal experiments and handling animal models.
