Salary:

Starting salary is $11.284 per hour, plus excellent benefits. This position is in pay schedule and range 03-08. A six-month probationary period is required.

Special Qualifications:

Requires experience driving various vehicles. Some positions require possession or the ability to obtain within six months or prior to passing probation, a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), maintain a motor vehicle record that meets UW Risk Management standards, and maintain ability to drive State of Wisconsin owned vehicles. Some positions require CDL with varying air brake endorsements and/or tanker endorsements.

The employment register established from this recruitment will be used to staff current and future vacancies for the next six to twelve months within the UW-Madison Campus. We currently have two vacancies located in the Physical Plant, Waste and Recycling. One has a work schedule of Tuesday through Saturday, 12:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The second has a work schedule of Monday through Friday, 4:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Questions regarding the position should be directed to Shari Cnare at 608/265-4059.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Wisconsin driving laws and regulations; knowledge of proper operating levels for engine oils, transmission fluids, coolants, tire pressures, etc.; knowledge of basic procedures in handling hazardous wastes and chemicals; knowledge of safe lifting methods and general safety precautions for handling materials. Ability to recognize potentially hazardous situations; ability to perform heavy lifting, standing, stooping, bending, twisting, squatting, and kneeling; ability to work under varying weather conditions: severe cold, extreme heat, rain, snow, and ice; ability and physical strength to handle 80 lb, e.g. dock containers and 55 gallon barrels of rubbish; ability to safely operate large motor vehicle; ability to adapt to changing technologies with the increased usage of specialized equipment.
