Under the direction of the Driller, this position is responsible for the ongoing maintenance of mechanical systems on the rig.
Installs and services all rig motors, rotary drives and air compressors.
Installs and maintains all service lines (e.g. air, fuel hydraulic, steam, etc.).
Maintains a sufficient supply of water, calling water hauler or starting water wells when necessary.
Operates hoists and air winch.
Under the direction of the Driller, maintains and services boiler when one is operating on lease.
Measures and checks all tubular goods before they are used in a string.
Maintains and checks all safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, air packs).
Maintains and checks all BOP lines and equipment.
Maintains adequate supply of fuel and rope, soap and dope, etc.
Assists Driller in operations and maintenance of drawworks and equipment (e.g. indicator, automatic Driller, etc.).
Performs general housekeeping and maintenance.
Assists Driller and Derrickhand in supervising Floorhands and establishing good work practices and correcting unsafe practices.
Responsible for working in a manner that insures his personal safety and the safety of his fellow crewmembers.
Reports and corrects any unsafe work practices and safety hazards.
Informs his relief, at shift change, of both routine and unusual information regarding the job.
Requirements and Competencies
the proper oils, oil levels and service schedules for motors, rotary table, etc.
Understands and follows the proper maintenance procedure including appropriate chemicals for boiler when in use.
Fully understands role in the event of a kick or blow out including calculating maximum casing allowance back pressure.
Understands the duties and responsibilities of a Floorhand and has sufficient knowledge to assist in training Floorhand.
Extremes of temperature that could exceed 100 degrees F or fall below a minus 40 degrees

Exposure to the elements and continuous vibration and elevated noise
Depth perception to accurately sense distance
Peripheral vision to accurately see objects and detect motion at wide angles
Understand detailed verbal communications
Detect subtle changes and discrimination in sound or sounds
Quickly recognize and communicate hazards, alarms and warnings
Accurately communicate ideas, instructions, questions, problems, solutions, and feelings
Continuous standing weight bearing for up to 12 hours at a time.
Frequent walking and balancing over equipment, slippery or uneven surfaces
Frequent reaching below shoulder operating tongs/handling tools
Occasional/intermittent twisting, crouching, squatting, stooping, kneeling, crawling.
Frequent bending, gripping (40 lbs power), push force at 75 lbs and occasional at 100 lbs
Occasional low level lifting at 100 lbs, front carrying up to 100 lbs and pull force up to 75 lbs.
Intermittent waist to waist lifting up to 100 lbs, overhead lifting up to 30 lbs, side carry up to 45 lbs.
Climb up and down structures in excess of fifty fee in height and work at those heights
Wear applicable personal protection equipment including;, but not limited to, a hard hat, steel toe, safety boots, hearing protection, respirators, goggles, safety glasses and safety belts
