The UIC Forum is seeking a Multimedia Operator to provide direct audio, visual, technological and general support for all events held in the UIC Forum. The position will report to the Multimedia Technician who in turn reports to the Chief Instructional Media Systems Engineer.
The main responsibilities of the Multimedia Operator will be to operate all audio-visual equipment for events as directed which includes sound boards, microphones, speakers, cables, projectors, etc. The incumbent will also be responsible for pre and post-event set-up and tear-down in relation to technical and/or audio-visual equipment; rewiring, rebuilding, or modifying equipment as needed; maintaining serviceability of all audio-visual equipment including repair or referral for professional service including establishing or implementing a preventive maintenance program for all equipment; assisting management with research, selection, and purchase of audio-visual equipment; responsible for issuance, receipt, custody, and inventory of all audio-visual equipment and other department property (such as tools); assists with training and supervising staff and performs other related duties as assigned. PLEASE NOTE: This position may require the chosen candidate to periodically work events held during evening, night, and weekend hours .
Any one or any combination of the following, totaling one (1) year (12 months from the following categories: training in technical school for electronics, armed services electronics training school,
factory electronics and/or mechanical service school OR college courses relating to the operation and use of instructional communications equipment or a closely related field (30 semester hours equals 6 months/60 semester hours equals 12 months) OR work experience in the operation and maintenance of instructional communications equipment.
The ability to operate and understand audio-visual equipment necessary to execute events in a large scale multi-purpose public assembly facility is highly desirable, including knowledge of standard room set-up and the ability to determine if the set-up meets the requirements set forth by the contracted group. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to interact with a diverse clientele and the ability to react to various situations and emergencies.
