Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), Department of Native Hawaiian Health Epigenetics Research, located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, and availability of funds and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.


DUTIES: Performs molecular biology assays using state-of-the-art technology to characterize epigenetic profiles, genotypes, and expression profiles associated with cardiometabolic diseases. Grows and maintains cells in a tissue culture room, prepares reagents and solutions, and performs experiments. Constructs libraries for next generation sequencing (NGS) analyses, collects and maintains data, and analyzes results. Isolates DNA/RNA from various types of biological samples; analyzes genotypes and expression using TaqMan and microarrays. Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments performed.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, or related field. EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of progressively responsible research work experience in molecular biology. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Excellent working knowledge of general molecular biology procedures and safety practices. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to be efficient in use of time and highly organized.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Willingness to learn new techniques. Flexibility and diligence. Advanced coursework in molecular biology. Work experience using modern molecular biology techniques and instrumentation. Experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
