JOB DESCRIPTION –Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
Under the supervision of the NICU Director and Medical Director, is responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and, when applicable, appropriately delegates tasks to provide optimum patient care.
Accountable for the assessment and development of the medical plan of care for high-risk neonates in collaboration with the attending physicians.
Participates in the development of guidelines for neonatal care and serves as
a resource for the neonatal staff members and patient’s family.
Participates in educational and outreach programs to continuously improve quality of neonatal team processes and services in order to maintain competence and professional growth
Evaluates and applies knowledge of age-related and socioeconomic factors in the assessment, care, treatment and education of neonatal patients and their families.
Identifies and assists with opportunities for performance improvement activities on the unit and with other service areas.
Accurately and completely documents all aspects of care given.
Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by taking ownership of time management, decreasing waste and promoting cost effectiveness. To actively market services to increase volume and awareness.
Demonstrates the ability to be an advocate for and strive to protect the health, safety and rights of the patient.
Interactions with patients and colleagues demonstrate compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth, and uniqueness of every individual, unrestricted by considerations of social or economic status or cultural beliefs.

the multidisciplinary team.

NICU Director and Medical Director
Education required and/or preferred:
MSN or completion of an accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program
Current RN license in Texas, concurrent approval to practice advanced practice nursing in the state of Texas, BCLS certified, NCC Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Certification, NRP and S.T.A.B.L.E. certified.
Experience required or preferred:
2 years level III neonatal nursing
