NON-PAID Student Opportunity

Internships are provided for students with a desire to work on projects that provide significant benefits to the social and economic development of developing nations and emerging economies throughout the world. Volunteer internships are available in OPIC's Office of the President, Insurance Department, Finance Department, Investment Funds Department, Office of Investment Policy, Office of External Affairs, and various sections of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer. Legal internships are offered by OPIC's Department of Legal Affairs. Tasks will primarily consist of conducting research and applying analytical and evaluative methods to produce factual reports and other forms of official correspondence and materials for OPIC senior leadership and the public; proofing and editing; tracking deadlines and action items; attending meetings and preparing summary notes for distribution; and staffing agency events.

SUBMIT SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT(S). Transcripts may be required if you are selected for an internship. You will be required to bring an official copy with you on the first day of your internship. Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment (at least half-time) in a relevant college degree program (diploma, certificate, etc.) either at the graduate or undergraduate level at the time the internship would be served. Full-time enrollment is required when positions are paid.

Applicants may select and prioritize the positions for which they wish to be considered; thus, choosing their own routing path through the selection process. Applications are routed electronically to department coordinators to review, conduct interviews and make selections. When an application moves through all of the applicant's designated departments without being selected, it is forwarded to a general queue where all department coordinators may review the application. This affords applicants the maximum opportunity to secure an OPIC internship. Because OPIC cannot pay travel expenses, face-to-face interviews are not required; interviews are conducted by phone.

All internships are NON-PAID. The student is considered a volunteer and is not entitled to compensation or overtime during any portion of this assignment. However, a transportation benefit may be provided depending on availability of funds. The volunteer is subject to the federal statutory and regulatory provisions that govern ethical and other standards of conduct, conflicts of interest, suitability, security, and limitations on political activity. The Federal Tort Claims Act and any other federal tort liability statute shall apply to the volunteer. The rules and policies that govern the internal operation and management of OPIC are applicable to the volunteer.

The Federal Government gives strong priority to hiring United States citizens and nationals, however, students on a F-1 visa who are citizens of an allied country may apply for unpaid internships with OPIC as part of their optional practical training. Students must be willing and able to travel at their own expense to Washington, D.C.
