OPIC is the U.S. Government's development finance institution. It mobilizes private capital to help solve critical world challenges and in doing so, advances U.S. foreign policy. Office of Accountability
The Office of Accountability is an independent office within OPIC that addresses concerns, complaints or conflicts about environmental or social issues that may arise around OPIC-supported projects. The Office provides project-affected communities, project sponsors, and project workers an opportunity to have such concerns independently reviewed and addressed.

The Office offers two types of services: It can work with the parties to a conflict to help resolve it (available to both project-affected parties and OPIC clients). The Office can also conduct an investigation about how OPIC applied its relevant policies to the OPIC-supported project (available to project-affected parties, as well as OPIC’s Board and President). The Office is mandated to provide these services upon request in a manner that is accessible, fair, objective, and transparent. In providing its services, the Office complements OPIC’s mission as a financial institution that promotes environmentally and socially-sustainable development.

DUTIES: The intern will substantively support the activities of OPIC's Office of Accountability in strengthening the environmental and social sustainability of OPIC transactions through problem-solving processes, compliance reviews, outreach, and advisory services.
The intern must have knowledge of the U. S. foreign policy structure, international development, and foreign direct investment. He or she must posses excellent research, written and oral communication, organizational and inter-personal skills.
Candidates should ideally demonstrate familiarity with environmental, human rights, and labor rights issues in developing countries; dispute resolution processes, and the role of development finance agencies in stimulating international private investment.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: SUBMIT SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT(S). Transcripts will be required if you are selected for an internship. You will be required to bring an official copy with you on the first day of your internship. Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment (at least half-time) in a relevant college degree program (diploma, certificate, etc.) either at the graduate or undergraduate level at the time the internship would be served.

BENEFITS: All internships are NON-PAID. The student is considered a volunteer and is not entitled to compensation or overtime during any portion of this assignment. However, a transportation benefit may be provided depending on availability of funds. The volunteer is subject to the federal statutory and regulatory provisions that govern ethical and other standards of conduct, conflicts of interest, suitability, security, and limitations on political activity. The Federal Tort Claims Act and any other federal tort liability statute shall apply to the volunteer. The rules and policies that govern the internal operation and management of OPIC are applicable to the volunteer.
