JOB TITLE: Executive Director

Location: The job is based in BROOKLYN NY

Job Description:
? SHFT Mobile Kitchen Classroom is a nonprofit organization that provides high school students across the country with opportunities to engage in experiential lessons around food, health, and sustainability.

? Childhood obesity rates have tripled over the last three decades and today nearly one in three children in America are overweight or obese. We have a chance to do something about this disturbing statistic and reverse this trend.

? This year, SHFT Mobile Kitchen Classroom (SHFT MKC) will launch two unique programs that will help combat childhood obesity, foster environmental stewardship, and empower the next generation of leaders to make healthier decisions for themselves, their communities, and the planet.

? First, Mobile Kitchen Classroom will be a fleet fully-equipped teaching kitchen built into the body of customized trucks. Each Mobile Kitchen Classroom will travel across the country, teaching high school students basic culinary skills and how to prepare simple, healthy, and delicious meals. These hands-on lessons promise to be fun and interactive, while allowing students to engage in broader conversations around nutrition, agriculture, and public health.

? Second, SHFT MKC is working with Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) to build a school garden and integrate food-based education into the curriculum, culture, and lunch program. BHSEC currently has three campuses - in Manhattan, Queens, and Newark - and our program has the potential to be replicated at these three sites and beyond.

? This is incredibly important work. And you can be part of it. We are looking for an inspiring and visionary leader to advance the organization and help us achieve our goals.

? The Executive Director has the primary responsibility of managing day-to-day operations, leading the organization's development efforts, and directing the work of staff and consultants. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director ensures that the organization is fiscally sound and that its communications, fundraising, and programming are meeting current and emerging needs. The Executive Director will be adept at both internal management and optimizing external impact and visibility. A successful candidate must be an excellent communicator who can effectively convey the mission and activities of SHFT MKC to both specific constituencies and the general public.

? SHFT Mobile Kitchen Classroom is the first community-focused effort of SHFT Initiatives, a foundation that supports creative solutions to improve the health of individuals, communities, and the environment. SHFT Initiatives is a collaboration with SHFT, a multi-media platform founded by film producer Peter Glatzer and actor-filmmaker Adrian Grenier with a mission to convey a more sustainable approach to the way we live through video, design and culture. ? The ideal candidate will have extensive practical experience at a senior management level, and a record of exemplary success in the professional domains encompassed by the position requirements and expectations described above. The successful candidate will have:

? An engaging personality.

? A strong commitment to the mission and values of the organization.

? A proven ability to manage and inspire a growing professional staff.

? Able to complete duties in a timely manner and delegate tasks to staff, board and consultants when appropriate.

? Extensive experience with non-profit administration and management.

? Excellent verbal and written communication skills through all media channels.

? A proven, creative and effective fundraising record with public and private donors and foundations, including experience in financial and/or business management with budgets of $2,000,000 or larger.

? Significant familiarity with non-profit budgeting, oversight, compliance and reporting.

? An effective and respected public presence.
