The Clinical Nurse Manager is accountable for facilitating excellence in patient care delivery, providing operating efficiencies and insuring compliance with hospital, ACC policies and procedures, and regulatory standards of practice.
This role is an essential leadership position managing patient flow and the efficient use of human, fiscal, and environmental resources. She/ He collaborates with Materials Management, Building and Grounds, Biomedical Engineering, and all other support services to ensure that the department is equipped, supplied, and properly prepared for patients, and physicians.
The Nurse Manager works collaboratively with the senior administrative director; medical and radiation oncology directors and the administrative manager. Participates in Quality Improvement activities,
coordinates development opportunities for staff, and promotes an environment that maintains high
professional standards of clinical care and conduct.

Collaborates with physicians, nurses and other health care professionals and support personnel to determine and evaluate the delivery of outpatient care; address and solve individual/unit care issues.

Assists the staff in the provision of care using, but not limited to, the philosophy of the Cancer Center and ACOG standards of care.
Works closely with the Clinical Trials Nurse Manager to facilitate the implementation of clinical research projects into the ambulatory practice setting.
Maintains competence in oncology nursing serving as a clinical role model to staff.
Interviews and hires new staff in collaboration with the Nursing Director.
Manages and supervises direct patient care providers to include nurses, medical assistants and allied health clinicians.
Evaluates each staff member’s performance, completes annual evaluations, ensures competency and ongoing compliance with job requirements and standards.
Supports staffing patterns and required personnel complements to meet the needs of the patient population in the Cancer Center . Plans coverage schedule for vacation and unscheduled absences.
Promotes the development of patient care teams engaging Cancer Center staff in the decision making process.
Promotes professional development of staff, using established and newly created mechanisms.
Delegates responsibility and authority to appropriate staff. Coordinates the work of the resource nurses to ensure front line support to the Cancer Center .
Plans, directs and participates in regularly scheduled meetings to share information and problem solve with Cancer Center personnel.
Implements corrective action as needed according to hospital policy.
Collaborates with nursing and hospital educational resources to facilitate learning experiences for staff.
Completes weekly payroll processes.
Oversees the timely submission of encounter forms and prior authorization for medications.
Maintains a safe environment for patient/staff.
Directs day-to-day activities of all Cancer Center clinical staff.
Considers feedback from patients and staff and initiates corrective action as indicated.
Interprets and enforces with staff and others the appropriate use of equipment, supplies, and physical facilities.
Evaluates and implements cost saving strategies to meet financial targets by trialing new products, eliminating waste and standardizing products.
Collaborates with the Nursing Director in preparation and management of materials/supplies budget by identifying future needs.
Collaborates with the Nursing Director in identifying and prioritizing capital budgetary needs.
Works collaboratively with the Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology Directors for the day-to-day operations of the unit.
Works collaboratively with physicians in the selection of appropriate supplies and equipment for medical oncology clinics and new programs.
Collaborates with the Biomedical Department to ensure proper and safe functioning of all clinical equipment.
Evaluates and maintains adequate par leveling and inventory of all supplies and drugs for the departments.
Assures NSPGs (i.e.: hand hygiene; two identifiers; fall prevention; medication reconciliation) is practiced effectively and in compliance with hospital standards by all team members.
Communicates effectively to physicians and administrative staffs to ensure their needs are met.
Works closely with the Nursing Director, Sr. Administrative Director and hospital staff to ensure that needs of each specialty/clinic are met.
Is a member of the Medical and Radiation Pro Practice Committees and other clinical committees within the Cancer Center . Is a member of the Cancer Center and ACC Quality Committees.
Engages in self review for annual performance appraisal, identifying areas of strength as well as areas for professional/practice development.
Maintains necessary clinical skills through self-direct clinical practice.
Holds membership in one or more national nursing organizations.
Establishes self as a resource in areas of Infusion, Physician Practice and Radiation Oncology where expertise may be required. Understands lab and phlebotomy operations and provides leadership to staff and work activities.
Provides competency based orientation for all new staff providing support to preceptors.
Participates in manager meetings and institutional committees as appropriate.

Infusion, Medical and Radiation Oncology nursing and support staff to include RN, MA, Social Worker and Dietician.
Assist in budget preparation and monitoring.
High level of clinical knowledge regarding nursing practice, patient care, cancer treatment.

Current licensure as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts .
Baccalaureate degree required.
Oncology experience required.
Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) Preferred.
3-5 years recent nursing experience in an oncology nursing with demonstrated clinical competence and professional accountability.
3 - 5 years of progressive leadership/management experience.
Clinical areas with exposure to bodily fluids, chemicals and sharp equipment. Must stand for long periods. General office conditions.
