The Native linguist must have 5+ years of professional experience. This personal should be capable of preserving and conveying the flavor, nuances and subtleties of the original text and interpreting and translating passages that are difficult to understand due to the specific nature or complexity of the language used. The Native linguist may be expected to:
- Provide gists, summaries, extracts, full and verbatim transcripts and English translations of a variety of audio and written materials.
- Provide on-line assistance to other operational linguists;
- Perform quality control as required.
Native linguists must possess native or very near native competency in the foreign language, defined for the purpose of this position as a person who has learned a language since birth through formal education at the secondary level in a country where the language is an official or national language and has full mastery of the language (oral fluency and literacy) and full understanding of his/her cultural heritage. Native linguists must have an excellent command of the grammar, constructions and syntax of the foreign language. Native speakers shall be abreast of idioms, colloquialisms and slang and have a sophisticated understanding of the cultural, social and political environment in which the language is used. The Native speaker shall be bilingual to the extent that they can produce well-written and accurate gists, summaries, translations, and reports in American English. The Native linguists superior language capabilities should allow him/her to work largely independently after a short period of target familiarization and training. Basic internet research skills and an understanding of telecommunications and computer network communications fundamentals are also desired, although not required.
