non-exempt; no benefits; 40 hours per week; Monday – Friday; 9:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m. ; eight 1-week sessions for children 7 - 12 years old; June 24 – August 16, 2013; no camp on July 4th

This position will supervise and lead groups of children in nature-related camp activities and games. Direction is received from the Nature Camp Director. Supervision is received from the Park Naturalist, the Recreation Specialist and/or the Superintendent of Recreation.

Examples of Work:
  • Plan and prepare for activities
  • Lead small group activities (12-15 children) and assist with large group nature activities
  • Participate in all activities
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Minimum age 18 years
  • Some experience working with children in a recreational and/or educational program setting (camps, playground programs, etc.)
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR (infant/child and adult), or able to become so certified before camp session begins
  • Ability to effectively lead and supervise groups of children in camp activities
  • Ability to effectively evaluate emergencies and unexpected situations and promptly respond in an appropriate manner
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including the ability to accurately prepare and maintain data, forms and reports
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, children (individually and in large groups) and their family members, and the general public
  • Physical requirements include the ability to move/travel over camp-related terrain in indoor and outdoor areas, to lead and participate in activities as described above, and to load, unload and set-up nature-oriented equipment

Additional Information/Examination Process:
  • Ability to provide own transportation to assigned camp and other sessions/meetings as needed
  • Ability and willingness to participate in planning and training sessions before camp begins
