Boulder County's Parks & Open Space Department has an opening for a full-time, seasonal employee to assist with cultural history educational programming at an off-site location. The position is housed at the Mining Museum in Nederland to be open Fridays through Sundays. The person in this position will work approximately 40 hours per week, Thursdays through Mondays. The position has an anticipated start date of May 9th with an anticipated end date of October 31st.
Examples of Duties:
Lead museum tours and volunteer trainings; conduct van tours of historic mining sites; staff the Mining Museum; schedule and supervise volunteer staffing of the site; coordinate volunteer staffing of the Assay Office Museum; research and catalog historical artifacts; routine maintenance and cleaning of exhibit areas on other historic properties; research and write interpretive exhibit panels for Cardinal Mill. Write articles for department publications and perform related duties as required.
At least two (2) years of college course work in History, Interpretation, Museum Studies, Geology, Earth Science or closely related field.
One (1) season of experience directly related to public interpretation and/or artifact cataloging.
Knowledge of Colorado history and/or mining is desired as is experience with cataloging historical artifacts. Volunteer management experience desired.
Must have a valid Colorado (or state of residency) Driver's License and a good driving record. Candidates selected for an interview will be required to provide a current (within seven days of the interview) motor vehicle record. If the issuance date of the Colorado Driver's License is within six months, candidate will also be required to provide a current motor vehicle record from the previous state of residency.
Must pass a pre-employment physical.
Must be willing to work occasional days and evenings outside of schedule. Ability to work independently at an off-site location necessary.
Position requires wearing a uniform.
Must be able to work up to 4 hours outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. Occasionally performs physical work leading tours, talking to visitors, and moving artifacts. This work includes lifting up to 50 pounds.
