ROLE SUMMARY: Manages all network security systems for LAN/WAN, telecommunications, and voice systems. Responsible for the physical security of computer facility, logical security for computer access and data protection. Monitor security threats to networked computer systems. PRIMARY / ESSENTIAL ROLE DUTIES: Sets up, configures and supports internal/or external networks Develops and maintains all systems, applications, security and network configurations Troubleshoots network performance issues, creates and maintains a disaster recovery plan Recommends upgrades, patches and new applications and equipment Provides technical support and guidance to users Keep daily security logs to monitor for internet worms, viruses, and other threats Verify existing protection systems are updated to repel security threats Maintains system, installs new units, and makes modifications to the network system as required Troubleshoots and assists users with any difficulties they may encounter Performs diagnostic tests to ensure integrity of system and upgrades firewall and virus protection on a regular basis Is responsible for installation and maintenance of peripheral devices, including printers, routers, hubs, multiplexers, and frame relay devices Maintains e-mail system and adds users as required Plans, coordinates, and implements security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure Plans data security for new or modified software, employee data access needs and risk of data loss or disclosure Reviews plan to ensure compatibility of planned security measures with establishment computer security system software Modifies security data files to incorporate new software security into establishment security software, using computer terminal, or meets with to request needed programming changes Enters commands into computer in attempt to circumvent new security measures to test system Coordinates implementation of vendor-issued security software updates Develops and writes computer security department policies and procedures Manages and polices hardware maintenance, software support, network and remote backups, upgrades, and Internet support Design, write and implement special reports Evaluate and recommend software and hardware to maximize productivity for all other networks Interfaces with all departments and outside computer support vendors Installs and monitors security software to monitor system usage
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to hear, hand dexterity essential for prolonged keyboard use, walk, and can lift light loads, such as monitors and towers. Visual capability for computer use, includes close vision. Ability to speak clearly, climb stairs, walk, sit for extended periods of time, bend repeatedly, and kneel EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCECollege degree or equivalent experience required. Minimum 2 years experience in an information technology security administrator role in a complex business and systems environment. Experience with technical alternatives and basic knowledge of emerging technologies. 4. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES Familiarity with Windows, Linux and OS-X system installation and maintenance. Familiarity with firewalls and network configuration tools. Knowledge of networking systems including LAN and WAN Knowledge of relational databases Strong report writing background Because the incumbent is responsible for the security of various hardware configurations and software packages, a high degree of technical knowledge and expertise in computer systems is needed to fulfill the requirements for this position. Knowledge of data communications-design concepts, communications-system programming, communication-access methods and current systems hardware architecture is required.
