Alpheus Communications is currently seeking an experienced Network Operations Center (NOC) Technician - Tier II to join their team in Houston , TX .
Perform duties as the Network Technician Tier 2 on the Day shift in the Network Operations Center in Downtown Houston.
Have a working knowledge of telecommunications networking concepts Remotely test circuits Provide customer circuit fault isolation and management Create and manage trouble tickets Coordinate maintenance actions during planned maintenance windows Coordinate “Call Before You Dig” requests Escalate issues with internal work centers and external vendors as needed to ensure timely problem resolution. Dispatch field technicians, direct maintenance and restoration of systems and circuits. Interface with and provide technical support for field technicians. Open trouble tickets with external vendors for off-net or loop circuit impairments Adhere to NOC processes and procedures Demonstrate a technical knowledge of broadband equipment. Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of networking concepts from DS-1 level through OC-192 and Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM). Demonstrate the ability to manage Core and Edge Cisco Routers. Install configurations on Cisco and Brocade Switches and Routers. Must have a thorough understanding Layer 1, 2 and 3. Resolve IP, OSPF and BGP issues. Use tools (Netcool, Solarwinds, CTC, Ciena Node Manager, etc.) to Pro-actively monitor network elements and respond to impairments monitor network elements Correlate events and alarms to identify the root cause of a failure Perform operational acceptance on new network elements Implement disaster recovery procedures Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve network level failures Identify data integrity problems and escalate them through internal channels to resolution Identify negative trends: troubleshoot, isolate, and correct the problems prior to a total failure Demonstrate the ability to manage Performance Monitoring to isolate and clear degraded services
Education and Experience:
Some College coursework completed Minimum 5 years in telecommunications with at least 2 years experience in a Tier 2 technician position. Previous experience with an RBOC, CLEC, LEC, ILEC, CAP is highly desired. Experience required in SONET, DWDM and Network Operation Center. Prior experience in telecommunications transport network and IP, including acceptance, testing, trouble shooting and maintenance activities is essential.
Abilities and Skills:
Must have excellent analytical and problem solving skills, as well as excellent communication, decision-making and organizational skills. Must have strong technical skills in the Transport (DS1 through OC192) / DWDM / fiber / IP telecommunications fields and be able to demonstrate the ability to solve problems. Candidate must have a working knowledge of Cisco, Foundry and Hatteras networking devices and a thorough understanding of Layer 1, Layer 2 and Layer 3 Protocol. Must be able to work under stress and in a fast paced customer driven environment. Candidate must be able to pass an Oral and Written exam to demonstrate their technical background. Operate within a 24x7, 8-hour shift Network Operation Center environment. Candidate must be able to work overtime, holiday, day, evening or nights as required or on-call. Equipment Used:
