Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), Department of Medicine, Neuroscience and Magnetic Resonance Research Group, located at the Queen’s Medical Center (QMC) in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.


DUTIES: Participates and assists in the research activities for approved clinical neuroimaging studies. Assists in data acquisition, data analysis, and organization of research subject records for approved clinical studies involving the use of human subject samples and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques to study the effects of brain diseases. Coordinates the collection and retrieval of clinical data. Performs image analyses or other analytical assays on subject samples. Assists in recruitment and screening evaluation of subjects and outreach for clinical studies. Responds to inquiries regarding the clinical protocols and coordinates subject visits. Maintains study databases. Assists MR investigators in coordinating project flow, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, including the completion of institutional review board (IRB) forms and correspondences, and progress reports for ongoing projects. Prepares reports to the team on a regular basis. Prepares manuscripts for publications and presents data at scientific conferences.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in Biology, Neuroimmunology, Neurochemistry, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering or a related field. EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of work experience with demonstrated increasing professional maturity as a scientist, with relevant experience in clinical research or equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in solving challenging technical problems independently, presenting the results to a research team or scientific community, and writing reports. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Knowledge in Neuroscience, Biology, Immunology, or Neuroimaging. Possess considerable working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in a clinical research setting. Broad knowledge of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles, and methodologies in clinical research. Demonstrated ability to recognize and resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and resolve the problems in an effective, innovative, and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by preparation of reports and other materials. Must have strong organizational and planning skills. Post Offer/Employment Conditions: Must be able to pass a post-offer criminal background check. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to lift and carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with Neuroimaging research or research related to substance abuse, HIV, brain development, or aging. Knowledge of Microsoft Access, Word and Excel computer programs.
