The News Manager/Hyperlocal is responsible for creating and maintaining several databases that impact all editorial areas, including elections, schools, real estate and tax information, sports and other areas as designed. In addition, the manager shall develop new technologies and methods of displaying information.
Daily responsibilities include participating in news meetings with the online and print side editors, which will develop projects and ideas.
The News Manager/Hyperlocal will also coordinate with the data base programmer and content management editors to optimize products.
In addition to the technical tasks, the News Manager/Hyperlocal must also be able to work under deadline and furnish databases on election nights and other breaking news settings.

Provides ideas and communicates with several desks and information sources.
o Capable of publishing web-ready content that adapts to Newsday.com templates and standards
o Packages material from newspaper and other sources into compelling online content
o Helps develop and implement a strategy for improving database design and usability
o Works with newspaper staff to identify programming oportunities and content packages that are not part of the daily production process Experience & Qualifications:
O The ideal candidate has previous experience as a database programmer working in online publishing
O Bachelor’s degree and/or 3-5 years of database publishing experience preferred
O Strong PHP, Microsoft Access, SQL and HTML skills
O Experience working on a news web site
O A successful candidate will have reliable transportation
