The National FFA Organization is seeking college students or recent college graduates pursuing degrees in journalism, public relations, telecommunications or a closely related field to share with the world the news and feature stories coming out of the 86th National FFA Convention & Expo Oct. 30 – Nov. 2, 2013, in Louisville, Ky.

10 Newsroom Crew internships are being offered this year (five reporters, three radio reporters, one photo specialist and one social media reporter). Newsroom Crew interns are expected to work Oct. 29 through Nov. 2.

Primary responsibilities
• Work an assigned convention beat, coming up with story ideas before, during and after the convention and expo.
• Research, interview and write news and feature stories for:

o , the official website of the National FFA Convention & Expo. o The National FFA Convention & Expo Blog and the National FFA Blog. o FFA Pulse, the official FFA e-newsletter. o Other FFA publications, including: § Proceedings, the official record of the convention and expo. § FFA New Horizons, the official member magazine of FFA. § New Visions, the official newsletter for the National FFA Alumni Association. Skills required: • Strong writing, reporting, interviewing and editing skills. • Ability to write engaging news stories and features.
• Energetic.
• Detail-oriented.
• Knowledge of AP Style.
• Deadline-focused.

Primary responsibilities:
• Conduct interviews.
• Edit and produce convention features.
• Assist with radio interviews and programs.
• Work closely with National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) to coordinate interviews and assist media.

Skills required:
• Strong reporting and interviewing skills.
• Time management.
• Ability to produce engaging news and feature podcasts.

Primary responsibilities:
• Produce photo essays.
• Work closely with media relations to coordinate photo opportunities.
• Interact with national professional photographers.

Skills required:
• Strong knowledge of photography.
• Experience using and knowledge of photo editing software.
• Strong writing, reporting, interviewing and editing skills.
• High organization skills.
• Detail-oriented.
• Good communications skills.


Primary responsibilities:

- Provide a real-time, entertaining and engaging account of the National FFA Convention & Expo for our social media communities.
- Attend assigned convention and expo events and report on them in real time via social media channels. (i.e. National FFA Blog, Twitter and Instagram.)
- Manage the National FFA Instagram account during the convention and expo.
- Manage a “man-on-the-street” FFA-branded Twitter account during the convention and expo.
- Frequently post high-quality content to assigned social media channels.
- Shoot and edit video and photos for National FFA social media channels.

Skills required:

- Proven track record of delivering regular, compelling social media content.
- Extensive social media experience : blogging, tweeting, Facebook, Instagram, Google+, etc.
- Excellent people and relationship skills to interact with convention and expo attendees and guests while gathering content.
- Lots of energy and enthusiasm and a strong sense of humor are a plus.

Newsroom Crew interns are responsible for travel to and from Louisville. Accommodations and most meals will be provided during the convention and expo. Although the internship is unpaid, a $200 stipend is provided.
