Memorial MedicalCenter, part of the MHS system, is a Magnet-designated, acute care hospital in Springfield that offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services. Since 1970, Memorial has been a teaching hospital affiliated with Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIUSOM) for the purpose of providing clinical training for SIUSOM residents.
Springfield , Illinois , the state’s capital, was once home to Abraham Lincoln and lies on the original US Route 66. With plenty of historical sites along with modern day shopping and entertainment, Springfield is home to just below 120,000 residents.

The Position
Under the supervision of the Perioperative Administrator and the help of an Assistant Nurse Manager, the OR Nurse Manager will lead all clinical and professional development along with human and material resource management activities for a staff of 160 reports. Memorial currently has 18 operating rooms and will grow to 23 in 2014; currently the OR averages 14,500 procedures a year. The nurse manager will spend 50% of the time doing office work and 50% of the time interacting with their OR team and surgeons.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a strong clinical role-model and have a good sense of business savvy. Having exposure to 10 or more operating rooms will be beneficial but not required. This person should have passion and vision and be able to contribute to the design of the OR expansion. 5-years of clinical OR experience and 3-years supervisory experience is ideal.

Able to develop strong relationships with physicians, peers, employees, etc. Previous managerial/charge experience Resourcefulness and ability to manage the span of this position’s control
Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor’s in Science Nursing degree and IL nursing license is required.
  • CNOR and Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2-years supervisory/managerial experience required.
