Provides direct patient care.
Manages and directs the clinical components of wound and ostomy care, which includes assessing, diagnosing, planning, prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment in patients with acute and chronic wounds.
Provides health promotion, education, and preventive care on an inpatient and outpatient basis to patients/families.
Coordinates and directs the Wound Care Education program Curriculum.
Practices in a consultative role for a diverse wound inpatient and outpatient population, coordinates, supports, and evaluates the clinical aspects of direct patient care related to wounds and ostomy.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, safe patient handling facility coordinator and other health care providers across the services to implement a continuum of care and services for the wound care patient on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
Provides leadership in the development of policies and procedures and innovative approaches to wound management, both inpatient and outpatient.
Develops, utilizes and participates in evidence based research practice guidelines and protocols that promotes positive clinical outcomes related to wound care.
Provides leadership in improving and sustaining the quality and effectiveness of wound care.
Coordinates planning, implementation and evaluation of supplies, treatments and pressure reducing / relief devices.
Maintains knowledge of wound management and keeps abreast of current/new products and trends in wound care management.
The individual will also be consulted for ostomy care.
Tour of duty is Monday through Friday 7:30 am until 4:00 pm.
Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.
Citizen of the United States. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency
accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia
. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Must be proficient in spoken and written English
Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing:
Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry.
Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows:
practice, ethics and resource utilization,
performance, education/career development,
quality of care, research.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
Certification as an adult or family practice NP by a national certifying body required.
A minimum of 5 years clinical practice experience in primary care preferred.
Experience in wound management and interventional procedures preferred

The Physical requirements of this position include the following tasks which may be performed intermittently: lifting of up to 50 lbs. (3 hours), sitting (2 hours), standing (4 hours), walking (8 hours), climbing (1 hour), kneeling (3 hours), bending/stooping (3 hours), twisting (2 hours), pushing/pulling (6 hours), simple grasping (8 hours), fine manipulation (8 hours), reaching above the shoulder (4 hours), and operating machinery (8 hours).
