The Nurse Practitioner, under the direction of the Section Chief and the protocols established by the Section of Hospital Medicine, will be responsible for the complete care of patients admitted to the Hospitalist Service on the General Medical-Surgical Units at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. A minimum of 40 hours per week with additional time required to fulfill responsibility of the position. Variable hours of duty (i.e., to include evening, night and weekend shifts) will be necessary. The NP service will provide twenty-four/seven accountability to the patient/family, nursing and medical colleagues utilizing one's expert knowledge, judgment, and/or directing patient family care.
Skills & Abilities:
The NP will be able to perform any nursing function performed by the nursing staff; write orders on patients; obtain body fluid samples for appropriate laboratory testing; institute necessary therapy as per established protocols; perform procedures that he/she has been trained to do; function under the supervision of one of the hospitalists; provide complete care of patients on the hospitalist service and function in a role equivalent to that of a resident physician; write daily progress notes in the medical chart, etc.
Training & Education:
Incumbent required to have completed a master's level course in an accredited nursing school as a Nurse Practitioner (NP). This person will either be board eligible or board certified. The NP will be licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The NP will assist in the training of medical students and residents, along with assisting the nurse educators in the inservicing of the nursing staff.
General pediatric experience preferred.
Preceptoring of advanced practice provider students, medical students, residents, and other health care providers may occur.
The incumbent must be board certified. The NP will be licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A DEA license is required for prescriptive authority.
