Our client, a well-respected, established leader in horse transportation, is seeking to add an OTR Dispatcher/Manager to their team. This position is 'the heart of the organization' and will report directly to the president. In addition to a background in logistics, the successful candidate will possess excellent communication and customer service skills, previous experience in managing others, and the ability to multi-task and thrive in a busy environment. Previous experience with horse transportation is a plus. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Coordinates with local dispatch to obtain maximum utilization of trucks for pickup and delivery of OTR horses as needed.
Communicate with drivers, dispatch, agents, and Payroll/Billing on pertinent trip details.
Consider operational performance, costs of operation, Safety and Compliance with DOT regulations, and Company policy.
Manage, Communicate, and Coach drivers to maintain positive driver relations, and reduce driver turnover.
Coordinate the schedule to balance the trips with drivers for fair distribution of trips/pay.
Coordinate with Fleet Manager to have equipment serviced thus preventing operational delays and safety issues.
Manage OTR drivers and dispatch team members.
Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
At least five (5) years of experience in Logistics and OTR dispatching and at least three (3) years of experience successfully managing others. Must be thoroughly knowledgeable about transportation regulations. Must be able to work weekend hours as needed for business operations.
